I'm sure people have different methods of doing this, but here's how I go about it.
Open your picture, and zoom WAAAAAY in. Take the line tool and select some bright or noticable color that is not in the picture, and draw the lines along where you want the picture "cut out". Just draw little line after line, don't rush it or your car will just look boxy and cut-out. Get as close to the car as you can without cutting any of it off. Then, once you have all of the car "masked off", color the rest of the picture away (using the line tool or a paintbrush or whatever.) Go to View > Actual Pixels. You should now have a picture of your car on a solid background. Next, take the "magic wand" tool and make sure the tolerance level is high enough, and click on your car. It should automatically select the outline of your car. Hit CTRL-C to copy. Go to File > New. It should automatically size the new picture to what's on the clipboard. Select transparent background, then click OK. Then paste your car. Voila, your car with a transparent background. Save.
Hope this helps!
