How long did you guys wait for paint??!!!
Yesterday I finally was finally told my car is gettin sprayed today. That is after 6 weeks, and ill have to wait till the 7th week to pick it up. I havent in anyway rushed them, but the fact i made an appointment, was told it'd be out in 7 days (
) and gettin charged 3k for all the work, you think they would maybe move a lil faster. Since my car went in, it sat the first week, got some prep the 2nd week, sat another week, stripped the fourth, then was on a lift for a few days, finished the prep and was primered. Now it has also spent many days out in the rain, with no hood!!!!!
This is the first time i ever had a car painted, should i be this mad? How long have you guys waited for your paint jobs.
BTW, this is my 91 Z. The most irritating part is i got to go and detail the engine all over again, polish and shine it all up, and get all the dust out. Thanx for hearing me out guys.

I waited for 6 weeks before I got my car back from the paint shop and was a little upset as it was only in to be sprayed (all the body work was done) but it was not left out in the rain with no hood! I would be very P*ssed also the time they tell you it will take is a rough estemate as they may uncover some problems that were not seen when looked at but were uncovered when they got into it still that is no excuse to leave it in the rain with no hood

I preped my car for about a month (going to school, job, not a lot of time) dropped it off and it was done 3 days later at a local shop. Told me I had to wait 14 days (to wax) but I waited 18 since it was garaged anyway I wasn't really worried about sun damage
I don't know why I read these posts where it takes an insane ammount of time but if you have body work and prep work done I guess it takes a lot longer?

Before I had the money for it: 2 years
After I had the money for it: spent 4 weeks in the shop
First week they didnt touch it, second week they started stripping it and putting primer, third week they added one more coat of primer and tried to find a decal for my back bumper (still looking)
He told me only 2 weeks, but they got really busy when I dropped it off, and on the third week I didnt want to let them have it til the next week but I agreed.
The car turned out great.

mine took a total of 2 months. one month to actually getting it painted and another month of me being an **** customer and refusing the car due to massive orange peel. two months after the fact here i am with a near flawless paintjob(my point is that being **** isnt neccesarily a bad thing)
Hrm, I put mine in my garage at around 8AM Saturday morning and at around 3:30AM Sunday morning (19.5hrs) I was putting it back together... Dupont paint dries real quick =) Only took me 13 hours straight by myself to prep and paint my Fiero.. Here is how the Fiero turned out....

I bought my car drove it for a week and then it sat in the body shop for five months. 5500 dollars later I had body colored wheel wells and the GTA emblems were in the wrong place. One thing I know from experience is do not rush the paint guy. If they feel they need to get the car out the door they will take less time finishing the paint (sanding it, blocking it, buffing it) It takes time to get a show quality finish. Many can spray and go. It takes a real professional to get the paint to look wet all the time. I don't think I got my monies worth, but I do feel I got a great finish, so much in fact I didn't let the body guy take the emblems back off to put them in the right spot. Sometimes if they feel they have taken to long they will even through in some stuff for free. Here is how mine turned out.
Oh no no you do NOT rush paint people. First few times my car was in I wanted it back quickly, so they rushed and it wasn't a good job.
I made a list this last time I told them to take however much time they needed, left them alone (save for stalking past the shop 5 times a day) and while my list wasnt followed precisely, the car still turned out the way I wanted it!

Hey waited quite a while for mine to get done. Took it in April 5 and got it back July 2. It was worth the wait. Nothing was rushed and it was all done right!! I was had to wait so long but it is usualy worth it. 91TPI5.7 if I was you I would not be happy. I would definatly go yell about it sitting outside.

Well guys here is an update on the 91. The car is 99% done. However, the guy had his father clean out the shop. He threw out the gfx piece that goes behind the rear wheel on the drivers side. So he ordered a new one, which was the wrong one, and re-ordered another one. The final word is ill get the car tomorrow or wednsday. Other than that the car is beautiful.

I'd say
to waiting more than a month for my car to be painted. If it is really going to take that long to get around to the car, the shop shouldnt hold the car until it has the time to work on it. I've never had a car painted, and it makes perfect sense not to rush a guy who has your whole car's appearance in his hands, but common sense just says thats too long.

Getting paint to look good takes some time. You have to do preperation work, multiple paint sprays, and allowing adequate drying periods for the paint to cure. I don't think a good paint job should take any longer than 2 months. If you wanted a show quality paint job, I would expect to wait 2 months and beyond.

I always tell people to multiply the amount of time the paint/body shop quoted x2(at least).
They're always shuffling jobs around in those places to keep the $ flowing.
Don't push, be patient and let them do what they need to do.
I know it's frustrating, but you don't want them to cut corners on your baby.
By the way, mine took about two months for prep, paint, wet sanding and rubbing, but it came out nice.
