Buffing HELP
Buffing HELP
I started buffing my car and there are swirl marks, what the heck this never happend w/ new paint. Should i just buff on it longer? I am scared of burning the paint. The paint on the hood is new it needs buffing because of high spots and what not. Please someone that has buffed longer than a few times help! thanks
new paint is subjected more to swirls then older paint,If I were you,I would get some glaze and a 3M waffle foam pad and foam pad it at low speed,as far as swirls go, You will never completly get them all out but you can hide them pretty well

its the throttle. I am using a wool pad w/ 3m perfect-it II rubbing compund. I dont have good pictures because the camera takes care of the swirls. It deltes them somehow
I'll add some anyway Thanks for the help again If you are really concerned, take it to a pro, otherwise, I think 3m makes a "swirl remover". Use a semi aggressive foam pad with the rpm's in the middle somewhere. Apply a little pressure and don't stay in one spot for a long time(5 sec). Watch your corners and edges so you don't burn through. If you are burning through the paint, your pad will be the same color.
Nice looking ride, In my view it sounds like its your buff pad?, go out and buy a 3m foam coloring pad(I think its called a waffle pad inUSAits the one with sorta dimples in it)
and a bottle of 3M perfectit "Glaze" get the black one coz of your dark paint color, just make sure you use it damp on a foam buff pad & don't let it dry or heat up too much when buffing & buff at about 1600rpm.
Watch you don't over cut on you edges, when your done wash really well in warm soapy water then hand polish with 113 or another good polish!
Never used 3m "Rubbing compound" but is it a liquid or a paste type coz if its a liquid type you maybe should be using it on a damp foam pad not wool, The other 3m liquid cut is good to use but a bit late now you have the rubbing compound.
Good luck lets know how ya get on

Yeah I also think your using the wrong pad. Wool pads really cut a lot. Get that pad that JACKO recommends or a regular foam pad. Remember your looking to finish the buff not cut a ton of clear which is what the wool pad is doing.
