I hope those headers aren't bakin while you're in the house.
If so, make sure you mail those heads to me quick before you die.

Are you painting your car green, or did you paint it red? I just noticed the green on the strut towers and wanted to know.
Also are you changing over from TPI, or had you already changed?
Looking good by the way.

Also, Zup... great progress there, I bet you can't wait to start that thing up..... I see you painted your engine bay, did you do that with the motor out, or did you just tape everything off?

i painted the firewall while the motor was down to the short block. the fenders, radiator housing, and front plastic piece thing are multicolor. Its that spray can thing Dupont came out with not too long ago. It shows purple blue bronz and green, in person, but for the life of me i can't get a pic to show up anything other than green. In person it looks pretty good, or at least i think so...
The headers got coated with Por-20, and it has to be baked in order to be cured and hardened. Then it can withstand something like 1500* degrees. I guess we'll find out here soon. I coated them the first time i put them in, but didn't bake them and the stuff lit on fire. NOT PRETTY. Hopefully that doesn't happen this time. I ran a blowtorch through them for about 20 mintues and nothing happened, so maybe i'll get lucky.
I ordered the pushrods this morning and had them sent overnight, so hopefully Thursday the beast will be breathing again!!!
EDIT, the car never was TPI, it started life as an LG4. After i blew that piece of crap sky high we dropped the 350 in. Unfortunately i knew nothing about casting numbers on heads at the time, and i left the stock 882 heads on there. Couple months ago i found out they're quite possibly the worst head GM ever made. Soooo, i had to ditch them

Are those the 23* trickflows? I was thinking about going with them also, but have decided to go with dart pro 1's.
Did you have any problem figuring out push rod length?

finding the pushrod length wasn't too difficult. The instruction manual has a pretty extensive list of different length pushrods for different rocker arms, You basically just have to verify it. In my case it was 7.85"
Trust me there will be several thousand pics and timeslips coming in the near future.
On a side note, is anyone here going to Englishtown for the Domestic Vs import showdown on Nov. 3? I should be there

my guess would be that that is reflection off the bottom of my hood, cause those things aren't there.
Specs:
195cc intake port
64cc combustion chamber
2.02/1.60 stainleaa valves
1.47' single springs (good up to .540" lift)
blah blah blah
came in just under 1000 including shipping through JDS performance
Look foward to seeing you all at Englishtown. My car will be there one way or another. I'm trying to set myself up with a truck and trailer, that way if something breaks (IE TRANNY) i wont be standed. I probably won't be racing if i have to drive it up there. But either way i'll be there...

Well i got home from work at 11:30 last night and immediatly went out there and started working on it. I got everything buttoned up around 2:30 this morning. I decided to wait until "later" in the morning before starting it (neighbors). I just started it and let it run for a while, and it appears that all the major stuff is good to go, but i do have some issues, the biggest of which is that there is a puddle of antifreeze on my pass. floor. I believe i cracked the heater core somewhere in the process. I'm just gonna cap it off for now, so i can get the rest of the bugs out. It was running really really lean at idle, so i richened up the primaries and that was solved. I also have a decently loud tick coming from the pass side. I don't think it's the valves... yet. I'm pretty sure it has something to do with those garbage exhuast gaskets they give you. I'm going to tighten everything up when i get back from class.
Hey Jim I'm game for that!
Devian, what woman? i see no woman in this home... (thats another thing i gotta work on LOL)

i had the same exact problem, only no where near that extreme. i was having an extremely hard time bolting up the #1 exhuast on the drvrs side cause of the power steering bracket that attaches to it. I got luck though and was able to chase the threads out with a tap and start over.
Right now i'm adjusting the valves again cause i tightened EVERY nut and bolt on the exhuast and it's still making noise. I'll keep this updated for everyone as i go.

thats what i just did. I did the same thing last night, except that i forgot to go the extra 1/4 turn. (what do you want, it was 2:00 AM). I think i got it all straightened out now. I just painted the valve cover so i just gotta wait another half hour or so, then i'll go fire it up again, and see what it does...

It helps lube the aluminum so the bolts don't cut into it.

i used anti seize on every bolt that didn't call for any other type locker or sealer. I love that stuff, it makes life so much easier.

Just a little update for everyone. I drove the car for a good length of time last Saturday, and took note of several problems. First the exhuast leak, then what sounded like a bit of valve tick, along with a leaking valve cover gasket, and a fuel leak.
I knew the fuel leak was in the line going to pump right near the header collector, so i decided to run the fuel line through the frame. done.
With that problem solved i set after the exhuast leak.
This turned out to be a catastrophy. I snugged the y pipe up to the headers before torq-ing down the headers to the heads, and torqued down the y-pipe first. When i went to tighten the front header bolt it washed the threads in the head. I almost cried. Thank *** i was able to get a tap in there and clean out enough of the threads to get it to tighten down. So thats fixed, (still has a tiny leak, but i'll fix that later).
So next i adjusted the valve train for 80 th time. After this i started it up only to hear a very noticeable Knock. I started freaking out again, and spent two days eliminating everything that could possibly cause knock. I was racking my brain, never did it ever occur to me that it could be the gas. I had totally forgot that my Cr, was now about 10.4~ to 1. I was running on crappy air base gas (watered down). So i got a five gallon can of sunoco 94 and a can of octane boost, and about two minutes later, the knock went away. THANK G0D.
I've still got to fix the rest of the exhuast leak and valve cover leak before it's really driveable, then i've got some tuning to do, because theres a bit of a bog initially. But the biggest hurdles of the swap are finally done....
just thought i'd let you know what i've been doing....

Keep up the good work and keep us posted. Now If I can only get my car running.
oh yeah, Are you going to get some time slips soon? If so post your times.
