Man-hole v/s thirdgen: the results are in, folks!

I was going down the road today.. just driving along... car in front of me slightly swerves, but it's albany... that's usual (spasmatic drivers) so i think nothing of it.. all of a sudden WHAMMM!! My seat is thrown forward and I can't get it back.. i realize my car has just been lifted from the road.. not sure how this happens, i pull over to discover a man-hole cover at half-mass.. one end above road, one end in man-hole.. i look at my car and the driver side floorboard is going the exact opposite of it's usual concave shape.. this isnt' good... i crawl on the ground and look up.. what do i see? Expected... a huge dent... end result.. shifter cable bracket f*d up pretty bad... car wont go into reverse, park, neutral.. yep.... tow that sucker!!! Much damage.. so, folks, if you even SUSPECT a man-hole ahead, look very closely.. it could be the underside of your car!

Any chance of contacting the city for compensation? I've heard rumors here in New Orleans its possibe to get the city to cover the expense of repair if you hit a pothole. This is only if they have it on file as someone called in and complained about it and it being on the list to get fixed, therefore the city is negligent. If they don't know about it they are not at fault. Maybe call the city streets dept and see if they will do anything for you, other than that hope ya got good insurance. Sorry to hear that happen to you.

Your city should pay 100% of the damages... what the hell are you paying those bastards for anyway...

My G/F's mustang scraped on a parking garage because of an incline it couldn't take... they cut her a check to get the bumper fixed...

My friend Steve had not 1, but 2 tires blow out going over a pothole... City would have paid for it but he didn't not want to "deal with those flipping morons..."

His car needed new tires at the time anyway, so he just got new ones.

Get this... i found out the city didn't know about it so I have to pay for it... ALL... collision isnt on my insurance... I am a youngin (still in school) and my dad refuses to help me. Could this possibly get any worse? Yes.. the frame was bent and they fixed it but with a frame it's basically over for a car... I will find out once I begin driving it again whether that 4thgen trans am is coming sooner than expected...
