Battery located in the rear hatch?

I was wondering if anyone had pictures or info on this being done in the spare tire compartment? I did a search and found some ideas but no pictures. It also needs to be legal for the track too. Any pictures of the cutoff switch? Also, does anyone know if there is a box that will fit in the compartment rather than welding in some brackets? Thanks for your time-Bryan

I dont have any pictures but I used a optima battery and a battery box that pep boys had. I also ordered a relocation kit from summit to do this which included all the wiring, a box and some brackets to hold the battery down. I didnt use the box cause it was too big. I also ordered a cut off switch and spliced that inbetween the wires. All your stuff that normaly goes to your battery on the + just run that to the starter. The + wire from the battery in the back runs to the starter also. If you dont get a kit id use at least 2 guage or 0 guage wiring to run from the battery to the starter.

Thanks> I got the wiring part down but where did you put the cut off switch? I believe it has to be outside and clearly marked for track use. Also, the box that summit sells does not fit in the spare tire compartment? I guess not huh. And the Pep Boys one did? I could always take a 5min trip and check theirs out! Thanks for the info man.

i used a competition engineering box for mine and a 900cca battery fits. i bolted angle iron to the spare tire holder and the ledge that in there to hold it. i mounted the cut-off switch in the black plastic that holds the passenger side liscense plate light. looks stock.

i welded the bottom tray in because it was the best way to keep it secure...

i won't use a shutoff switch because i don't want to cut up the rear of the car...most put it in the black section next to the reverse lights of the tailights. this houses it the best.

wiring is simple........just run the main line with the frame and keep it away from hot areas.

if you want absolutely no track hassles make sure you use a drycell battery or have an enclosed casing with a vent tube for a regular battery as well as a shutoff switch and you will have no problems.

i have one old picture when i first put the battery in on my site...not the best but it will give you an idea; i wouldn't recommend doing it though unless you plan on using that space under the hood.

good luck.
