Forum Rules For you to Live By...Will They Ever Be Enforced?

From the Sticky:

There will be no bashing, trolling, name calling, bad mouthing, flame baiting, or any other type of negative messages allowed.

Discussion about Appearance and Detailing topics is what we are all supposedly here for, but it seems that nearly every good thread gets ruined by the same people, who just can't restrain themselves from making unnecessary inflammatory comments. Disagreement is expected; we all have different ideas, but they can and should be discussed in a mature fashion, with respect shown to all members whether you agree with their ideas or not.

Apparently, closing the thread isn't enough. The same people keep bashing others, thread after thread, and will probably keep doing it if there are no consequences for their actions. I for one am sick of threads being closed due to the flamewar started by some punk who had nothing to add to the thread to begin with. By doing that, you're just punishing the people who actually have an interest in what is being discussed. I would like to see a rating system, to be controlled strictly by the moderators, that would give a strong warning to the first offense, a suspension for the second, and a peramanent ban after the third. Sure, someone could always use another email address to post, but eventually they would tire of the extra work and go someplace else. Either way, we win.

Don't forget to vote in the poll!!!

well put, i don't post in this forum much, and i rarely read alot of stuff in here because of that... my feelings are that if people want flames wars, there are other places for that, there are specifily other thirdgen sites with fight clubs, general topic areas ect. thirdgen is a TECH site. and when i come here i want to read tech, not read people bashing others cars because they don't like something. people need to understand that other like diffrent things, and not EVERY thirdgen needs to look the same.

Depends what you mean by bashing. Simply not liking something is not bashing. But when some ******* says "That is a piece of ****, I hope you crash it and destroy it" or something, that needs to be stopped.

I'm not talking about disagreement, or not liking something. Expressing opinions is a major part of any forum, and I wouldn't want to restrict that, even if the majority don't like my ideas. This isn't about opinion, its about expressing opinions with tact, when they are appropriate. You can disagree to your heart's content, but examples like the one you mentioned are what I am talking about. People need to learn to state opinions without attacking others. There is no place for that.

Well maybe I should clarify myself. Yes you are right. Opinionate without bashing. Yes I agree and apoligize for any misunderstanding I might have caused on my opinion Lt1guy. I didnt intend for that. So I vote , give a place for it if it is necassary to bash. Again my apoligy to any misunderstanding I might have caused by not being more specific.

Well, put LT1guy, I couldn't agree with you more. Opinions are opinions, and when most post here, they are asking for opinions, good or bad. What do you guys think of ---? is the most commonly asked question on this site; that's what it's all about. So negative comments are very welcome; we all have different views. There are many things I don't like in this world, but I appreciate people who strive to be different, who work to make their cars different, even if and especially if it's not my cup of tea. I say especially because I would hate it if their taste was exactly like mine and thus we drive identical cars!

I think banning people is a little extreme (big emphasis on "little") because no matter how many a-holes you ban, there'll always be more where they came from (as LT1guy's sig says, "...the population is expanding...") but we do need a section where they can get it out of their system. Hopefully, having a junk section would reduce the amount of junk in our serious tech areas. However, those who persistently bash other people's ideas after this measure is taken, do in fact deserve to be banned! Just my $.02.

No apology necessary...at worst I thought we respectfully disagreed, and I have no problem with that. Sounds like we're actually on the same page, other than our preferred solution.

Well I for one know we all had to read the section on conduct when we signed up. And I see people continually breaking it. As I'm sure we all know, I am one of the ones who has taken the brunt of unsolicited attacks (revlimit, Iroc2nv, Flynlow92rs,...etc.) Most of the others prob don't stick around.

I agree the consequences should be enforced and they are not, or at least not enough anyway. I also agree that opinions are allowed, that is part of why we post, to get feedback. We just need people to express themselves w/o bashing and flaming, as stated above, with TACT. None of this "poke out my eyes", "puking on the floor", "disgraceful POS" comments. Simple "I don't like this" or "it would look better that way", "not my taste" would get the point across fine w/o starting and argument.

I have seen way to many abuse their posting privledges here. I think we should be here to support and help others. I come here to learn, help, and exchange ideas. Not to have to fight over the way express themselves and their opinions.

I think the people that just say something bad for no reason need at most be put on probation. Granted sometimes they go too far, but give them a chance to change.

Now if someone asks for opinions, that's the poster's fault for asking, if he can't handle opinions don't ask for them. But for someone just to bash when no opinion was asked that is goin a bit far.

Again, how about probation?

Or, how about a mod on this board that actually is around to help close posts before they get out of hand, ont sayin the one we have is bad, just someone that is around a bit more. Oh, and not a job I'd want, lol, too many people would hate me then, well more than now ne ways.

Oh, this post is off topic, I must close it.

VERY WELL PUT!!!

I rem. the first week I got on this board, redraif asked opinion about her car in the v6 section, I belive I simply put "I didn't like it, thats not what I would have done" and left it at that, and I belive no feelings were hurt.

I do notice quite a bit of bashing on this board, and little to none on the v6 board, maybe this board does need to be watched over more, but it is also the board that will have the most opinions stated.

I agree with the first part, but the problem isn't the opinion, its the attitude. Mark, I know you prefer a stock look, and you know that I don't, but that isn't a problem because of the way you state your opinions. We can disagree without being confrontational, and there is no problem. We just agree to disagree.

I don't think closing posts does any good...again, it punishes the people who are there to learn and contribute, with no consequence to the people who caused the problem to begin with. They just find another post to ruin.

OK, how about a mod that does this....ex:
flameboy before "you're car is a piece of ****"

flameboy after "edited for content, because I was being a silly boy"

, how about that.

Oh, and I like non stock looks too, just not too extreme, different wheels, different hood, that's all cool, I just don't like airplane wings on cars.

I agree with you to a degree LT1, but the sticky also includes "no flame baiting". Alot of people doing super radical custom jobs i would think would be better acomidated at a different message boards where the majority of the people do such things. It just seems to me that if you put a giant aluminum wing on a 3rd gen you are just asking for trouble. Some people just like to stur up trouble because they know they will get a rise. This is still no exuse for some of the more crude coments i tend to only see on the appearance board.

Okay, but an opinion is an opinion... Some people put a giant aluminum wing on a car because they think it looks good. If they think it makes the car faster, okay, they're a "*****," but if their car is already fast, or in redraif's case, a showcar not meant to be fast (....yet) then it's their choice, their car! I don't think redraif does what she does to HER car to get a rise out of you guys!

Why should someone with a third gen have to go to a different message board, just because they want to build it their own way? A guy with an aluminum wing or neon or odd graphics has as much right to be here as a guy with a restored IROC Z, or a guy with a V6 powered rustbucket. I didn't say, or expect, everyone to like everything;thats just not possible, or even desirable. I see mods every day on here that I wouldn't do personally, and while I have every right to express my opinion on them (as does anyone), I don't have the right to demean that person for their choice. BTW if there is a message board devoted to custom thirdgens, I'd like to know about it.

I spend a large amount of my time on this
board (Appearance and Detailing), because I enjoy seeing both Stock and custom thirdgens. My solution to this problem is simple and probably won't be liked.
Ignore it and it will go away. The fact is its just type on a screen not some one yelling in your face (Thank G o d!). Too many times have I seen a person make a rude remark on the opinion of a thirdgen. Only to get others flaming back. Thus causing a lock. Don't be tempted to reply, Ignore it. Continue on with your constructive conversation. The mods will see constructive posts with one or two negative responses, thus leaving the thread open. I do understand how it feels to work your butt off on your car only to have a 16 year kid that weighs 90lbs or a 40 year old that still lives with his parents tell me my car looks gay without fog lights ( remember you have no idea who's slaming your ride). So ignore them.

Joe,
I agree with you wholeheartedly on the subject. While Shannon's mods are a little outlandish for my taste, I have to respect her for the fact that she does all the work herself and the love she puts into it.
The bashing is the reason I've been a member for two or three years and have only made a handful of posts. Hell, I get more friendly responses from people on the Mustang boards.

Ignore it? Sorry, that doesn't work. Turning the other cheek just makes it easier to get smacked from another angle. I would actually prefer someone yelling in my face to a cowardly verbal assault on a message board; I can resolve the situation far easier , without having to type a single keystroke.

Nice to see none of our Moderators have chimmed in yet. Seems as though they don't care about the problem. I personally do a lot more reading here than posting, but even so, I hate it when I'm reading a perfectly good thread only to come upon a flame war right in the middle. That pisses me off so much I refuse to continue reading. I'm here for information and others insite about our cars, our hobby. My car is a big part of my life, I've spent plenty of money on it and I'm here to learn as well as 99% of you. I don't need to see people acting like little children bashing on others. Go to a ***** board and flame them...don't do it here.

Ryan

P.S. It is always the few that ruin it for the many.

There is only one reason that I come to this site. It is THE best thirdgen site I have seen. I was on this site before I actually bought my first thirdgen. This site has been more help to me than I could have ever imagined. The people who flame and criticize uncontrollably are taking away from the rest of us who know how to act like adults.

This site is a goldmine of information that is well presented and most of all free. I think it is a great priviledge to have access to this site and be able to share my love of cars with like minded people who love their cars as much as I do. Part of what makes this site great is that it is respectable and unbiased.

Anyone who can't have some respect for the others on the board should be warned, put on probation and then if they can't grow up they should be given a boot in the **** so they can stop wasting the moderator's time and let the rest of us enjoy this site in peace.

I see mods every day on here that I wouldn't do personally, and while I have every right to express my opinion on them (as does anyone), I don't have the right to demean that person for their choice. BTW if there is a message board devoted to custom thirdgens, I'd like to know about it.
i guess i didnt convey my thoughts in my post well... i never tried to make it sound like anybody didnt have a right to be here. I was simply impling that a board full of people that like cars stock or near stock may not be the best resource for someone trying to customize their car simply because there arnt many people on this board that have knowledge, skills or desire necessary to do radical customization .

I think the CornFlakeKid is going to end up being correct. Ignore the a<x>ssclowns and hopefully they'll just go away. If they don't then by ignoring them they'll just be talking to themselves making them look even more pathetic than if you were to attack them. The easiest way to take away a persons legs is to not even respond to them. The only thing they have at that point, the only thing that represents them, is their trite, childish words on a screen. If that's what they want to be known for, by all means let them.

I actually considered (during my vacation) watching out for (searching on their user names) these idiots and jumping down their throat every single time they posted; regardless of what they were saying. Just attack them for ***** and giggles.

However, cooler heads prevailed and I didn't. You know how the saying goes: Don't argue with an idiot - they'll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

A LOT of these morons have a LOT of said experience.

Well put Steve. Very much agree.

I seriously doubt there will be much policing of this board, simply by looking at how it is run. Its rarely update, rarely maintained, and each moderator seems to work on his own rather as a group.

The structure of this forums management system could use some work. But I doubt the webmaster has the time or even cares.

Ignore these people. I know it gets annoying seeing everyone post **** and pick on you for that UFO you call a car. But lets face it to be blunt, look at your car.

Sure you don't care what they think, well if you dont' why are you stressing?

Ignore these childern. Seriously. Maybe you should stop posting pictures of your car in every other post. I have seen you attacht pictures in dozens of threads, and after you attach a photo BANG everyoen is calling you a homo or something.

Don't provoke something. Of course you could say its like me saying the girl provoked the rappist by being a hoe. But you never know.

Until this board's moderators actually lay down some rules for the whole site and actually police the thing and work together rather than the independant TIGHT *** EGO triping dicks they are (NOT ALL, BUT A FEW) then maybe this board will get alil better.

I know why I haven't been posting here as much, and its becuase its the same **** every other thread. Slamming someone and his car.

And you know I just gotta poke fun at your UFO cuase everyone else is too, but its friendly

USE THE INGORE BUTTON

I've been using vbullleting on my own local forum and believe me it be easy to crack down and correct this boards problems in about 15mins.

As far as this discussion goes, if an opinion is asked for, that person is asking for an opinion. However, if you "want to puke on the floor", you don't have to say that on here. You can just say that you "don't like it", or you "think it would look better if you...", then SAY to yourself " I'd like to puke on the floor. Unless it's typed, nobody else on here can "hear" it. Quite frankly, I think a lot of what I see on here body wise is foul, but I am smart enough (not to mention that I don't like to upset people) to realize that you can tell someone that you don't like their car without being a *****. Hell alot of poeple I see bashing Redraif's car have some pug-fugly cars themselves (or no friggin' car at all). If someone asks for an opinion and you think that their car, or whatever, is $hit, then instead of saying that, offer a suggestion or two. Just don't be an *******, just for the sake of being an *******.

Its not about the car, anyone's opinion, etc...I have already said that!!! Have I ever made a big deal the few times you have made the "UFO" reference? Nope. You probably agree with several of the people I'm talking about, but I don't place you in the same category because you aren't being rude about it, or disrupting a thread with an attack. Sure, "We don't care if you don't like it!", but if you're an *** to me, whether about the car or not, I WILL respond. IF the moderators can't keep this site under control, maybe we need new moderators. Otherwise, just merge this site with 3GO, a perfect example of the lunatics running the asylum.

BTW no one is going to make me quit posting here, pictures or otherwise...if I do that, then the flamers have won.

People make fun of other people every day, it won't go away.........simply put.........

LT1Guy & Redraif............no need to argue with people, just go and look at your trophies.......those are the things you need to get recognition for all your hard work, then as mentioned in another post, go clean it, throw some wax on it, clean the rims, and go out for a cruise and you will instantly feel better.........

I'm not flamming your UFO, I am juss ragging ya, I like your car and respect anyone with orginal ideas.

This board runs itself pretty much. No one maintains it or up keeps. The mods here just play favorites and prolly own browse when they have a chance.

I agree with this one....

If you want to criticize my car, for G O D sakes send me a PM, don't disrupt the good threads that get started here, mostly turn into flame wars then are closed.......

As Robert De Niro said in RONIN....

Honestly I tried that...It didn't work and the thread still got closed. So I attempted to respond in a controlled tactful way and believe it or not some of them backed off and left me alone. They realized I was not going to sit and take the rude tactless comments and little by little most have left me alone. The bully syndrome...

Just an FYI........

LT1guy........ I hope you realize that by you contentiously posting your sob story of how you hate it when people are rude, you are feeding them what they want.

They're getting to you and they know it. That's what they want. They're sitting in front of their monitor right now giggling until they pee their pants. They're laughing like Dr. Evil.

Stop posting your bitch sessions on here. PM a moderator, or email Dirk. That's what they're here for. You can't expect them to be able to catch everything on this board. In order to do that they'd need to spend more time on here than Mark does.

I've tried telling you this before, then the next thing I know your G/F comes on here and makes a personal statement to the effect of "no wonder some of you can't get women with the way you express your opinions." I sent her a PM saying that by her doing that, she's stooping to their level, as well as being hypocritical. You two ask others to stop making rude comments toward your cars, but then she goes and writes something as immature as that?

I'm not trying to flame you, I'm trying to shut you up. I come on this board to see what people do to their cars. I don't come here to read "Dear Abby"

I didn't bother reading the rest of the Sh*t posted here bacause that's what it is.

According to what you stated above, you would have already been banned from this site, saving the rest of us from have to see stupid rants, and raves like this one.

Sorry but there is a catch 22 here, and your self-incriminating.
That is just plain stupid.

I shouldn't even have the option of even posting a message like this, but thanks to you, and your non-technical post bullsh*t, here I am.
