Hey a buddy told me awhile back that someone had posted an article on here about how to strip rims, that there were chemicals you could use to take that nasty looking enamel off of them, then you could polish them and they'd look as good as aftermarket wheels. He said there was a pic of IROC wheels. Can someone please give me the lowdown on this? I've got an 89 Formula 350 whose wheels look like the south end of a northbound donkey, and if I can get them to bling I'd be thrilled.

Search for my posts on polishing wheels on here, or others as well.

Aircraft stripper is what you're talkin about, be careful it will burn your hands. $5 at Wal-Mart.

Yep, aircraft stripper. I got to see it used at an airport. Make sure you are well protected, gloves, goggles, no bare skin exposed. That is some serious stuff. It's not exactly an indoor chemical so make sure you have sufficient ventilation. It is powerfull so watch yourself.

go to www.thirdgen.org and to the left click the link called Tech Documents. then scroll down a few and click the link that says Polish Rims, or take clear coat off rims.

I used a product called Tal-strip, which is an aircraft paint remover that I got at Checker auto for under 8.00. Works really well, but as devianb said, use caution with it. It will burn your skin and it smells really bad. I only had to use one coat on most of the rims to get the old clear off. I might post pics later.
