Paint Gurus, need your help..

I'm thinking about getting the car painted, and have my bro spray it down, he does a decent job and that will cut out labor cost. I will also be doing all the prep work.

So, I just need supplies, like paint and sandpaper.

I want the paint on the car to look like the paint that is on my hood now, nice shiney, and reflective, for some reason the rest of the car doesn't.

So, what kind of total cost am I lookin at here? with paint.
How many coats of clear, would 2 be ok? I don't want it to last 5 yrs or anything, just look nice, and last 2 yrs maybe.

Want to get this car lookin good for Thirdgen Nationals '03.

Thanks for all the help, here's a pic of the hood btw, to see what kind of results I want.

Not an expert, my dad is, but he told me about $500 for all of the supplies.

bigbrianiroc-z is right,
Mark,
that's a waste of time and money if you only want the paint to last 2 years...

I look at it like this, either way I have to pay for prep work supplies..

Now if I get the paint, least I konw what quality I'm dealing with, and the painter that is painting it, I dunno, since I hear every Maaco is different, I'd hate to get stuck with a crappy one, and be worse off.

I don't mind payin $400-500 for all of this.

I'll keep Maaco in mind, I'm just throwing around different ideas.

just ask people in your regional boards if they know were a maaco is that does good work. ask for some pics of thies cars and what grade paint job they got. there is this one maaco in houston that does spectacualr paint jobs as long as you do most of the hard work. sometimes if u get lucky u can cetch them when there having one of thies sales and u can get the 1200 dollar paint job for 600--- thats a deal.
