"Close calls" on would-be accidents, any stories?
There should be a story section here, but i think this the best place for this.
I know some of u guys have had to go through the tuff time of having your 3rd wrecked. But how about the lucky ones who just got away from that really "close call"
I know for me it was in the summer, and i was working at a sign company who makes signs. Well we were out installing a sign at this pizza place. And it came time to leave, but my boss stayed behind to finish up.
So i get in the car, happy to leave, and im about to head off. Well now this is a 2 way road, 2 lanes on each side, and one middle lane.
As im about to pull out i check both ways, cars coming both sides. Well to my left is a car about to turn in the driveway im in, but for some reason i thought the driveway was to narrow, and the way that lady was coming, i didnt feel confident that she could make the turn.
So i figure as shes slowing down, shes obviously slowed down everyone else behind her, so i'm like heres my chance. Well im about to pull out, but i still wasnt sure if it was 100% clear, since the cars behind her were vans, and SUVs, so i couldn't see the other lane.
Well im pulling out and my nose just goes over to the second lane, about to get in the middle, but cant go there cause cars coming opposite lane, so im gonna going slow. So before i pull out enough where i can see the next lane, i hear this SSSSCCCCRRRREEEEEECCCCCHHHHH!!!!!! Tires buring, i'm like WTF! Finally i see the other lane, and heres this beretta coming at me at about 40 mph, ready to hit me square in the middle of the drivers side door. Im saying to my self, **** this gonna hurt. And i couldnt to do nothing cause all lanes were filled with cars. So this beretta is screeching, and burning its way towards me, slowing down as it gets closer. It got within 10 ft, and the thing was still crawling towards me, and finally, FINALLY, pure luck it happened to stop within 1 foot of my car.
Oh my ***! I said to myself, i looked at the driver, and hes shocked, but cant see my face since its tinted, and then i just slam on the gas when it was clear and i got the **** outta there, shaking for a few minutes.
Very close call, glad i made it out of that one. Sorry if it was long, but hey its story. What do u guys got?

Guys almost hit me a few times.. never close to hittign someone though, i may be 17, but i know how to drive.. also IMO having a manual tranny keeps our eyes on the road and focused.. to where with an auto you tend to relax up.

I got a couple... First one was, I was waiting to pull out onto a street from a stop sign and people liked to park where you couldn't get a good view down the road. Sat there for a min, listened for any traffic, started to pull out and the front end of a firebird was coming at my door! ahhhhhhh floored it across the street and got out of the way whew.
Second one... After a club carshow I was following a couple of the members to a house and I was last in line. We got spaced out by a few car lenghts 'cause of a stop street ... well, this lady decided to keep looking at the 'vette and firebird ahead of me while pulling out of her driveway. I slammed on the brakes and missed the back of her car by inches. Already had an eye on her when I saw the front of the car and she never even looked my way. I had already taken my foot off the gas just incase she did pull out. She did, I slammed on the binders, narrow miss, she kept driving for a few more yards while I was stopped in the middle of the road gathering myself and checking my shorts.

some guy hit my buddies iroc in the rear.........and then ran, he had to chase him down to get his plate number. the guy hit two road cones and nearly caused an ambulance to roll. cost a pretty penny to fix the damage. he even tried calling the guy to give him a chance to pay for the damage or at least apologize and it never happened.
let's just say when everything finally cooled down he got what he deserved.
can't say i feel bad for the guy as he had his chance.

First day i had my permit and I was out with my grandmother I had two instances. One was at SDGE thats the power company here, a lady was backing out and not paying attention and I slamed on my brakes and everything was fine. Next was leaving my grandmothers road a kid that just got his license was racing around the same corner when I was leaving and I had to swearve to miss him, and get this he was missing the whole front end of the damn SUV some people never learn
. Ive had some other ones as well like a huge excursion turning into my lane when I was going around a corner in the lane next to me, the lady had just gotten it and still had the paper in the window( had to slam on the brakes there) and then a a blue dakota nearly hit me in down town san diego it was coming fromt he oposite direction and she went over the yellow lines and I had to swearve, then that same day a guy in a new audi just swings his door out on me and I had to sweaver and not rip it off. Ive had so many its hard to remember them lol and I just got my license 4 days ago ( dang glad I can drive good lol) Just a tip So cal is full of really scary drivers, first day I was out paying bills with my license I saw 3 teen girls in BMW's swearving in and out of traffic with custom plates.

I have close calls almost everyday... not cuz i'm a bad driver, but because i bring my car to school (HS).
When i took it to school on friday, I had a REALLY close call.
At school, since i'm usually one of the last ones there, i have to park on the street with alot of other cars going by in and out of the parking lot. Well... it's friday morning and i just parked my Z28 and shut 'er down. I look in the mirror before opening the door.. no one there.. so i open the door, and i see this car coming up REALLY fast, so i slammed the door. I swear that he easily could have been within 6" of my door doing probably 40mph. My car would have been in the scrapyard had i not closed my door when i did.

Damn those are some close calls there guys. Luckily we got through them. Maybe these people just dont have the desire to preserve our cars as much as we do. I mean i have never had a problem with another f-body, or sports car in that manner. It seems to me the ones that cause problems are the ones who really dont care about there cars, or the ones who have the rich cars, but think they are kings of the road, and are oblivious to there surroundings when they drive. U know what im saying.
Maybe we get an extra sense of awareness when we drive our cars. I just hope it never comes to the point where im unlucky and have to post my sad story of getting hit.....ouch

I have on that made me shake a bit.
It was late and I was coming home from work. I was on major parkway going to downtown ottawa.
I stopped at a light and a truck came up beside me. one of those ZLT1 something or other GM trucks. I think they have the LT1.
light goes green and I start to move a bit and so does he. I speed up and he matches. we did that about 3 times and then he gunned it and so did I. I jumped him a car and the started pulling. he let down and I moved in front of him and I jumped into the left turning lane going towards and intersection.
I stomped the brakes only to find my tires slipping on water. that lane was full of water because of some sprinklers watering the island seperating the two lane roads.
so I slid half way and almost into the intersection. it was way too close if you ask me. I was lucky it was late at night.
I guess a straight road and a challenger makes for some fun times
eeeee!

...those all sound scary.I was making a right turn (and i had the right of way) at an intersection with no lights, and so this chick (not the same lane but the lane closest to me on the right) decides that she wants to go straight at the same time i'm turning left....she would have broadsided me if i wasn't paying attention, if i didn't lay on my horn, and hadn't sped up.....needless to say i was scared. thought my car would have gotten a nasty dent and alot of scraps.

Back when I had my '89 RS, I was driving home in the snow when I saw the stop-light turning yellow ahead. I hit the brakes, and the back-end slid out, sending me backwards through the intersection before finally coming to a halt, facing the wrong direction in the center turn lane. Only by the grace of *** did I avoid hitting/getting hit by anybody.
