H4 Headlight conversion...

i have a 1992 z28 adn am purchasing the h4 conversion kit for my headlight. i have heard that i have to do some alterations to the wires on the bulb to make them work on low and then switch off when the highs are on..in other words...to act normal. please tell me exactly what i ahve to do to make them work right.. i am also wondering if the same kits will work for the high beams...i dont think so cuz the high beams only have 2 contacts and the highs have 3...anything u know will help thanks...

It's been a while since i re-searched the subject, but the deal with the headlight wiring harness is that the factory one cannot support the current that the new and improved high-output ligths will be drawing. There was a kit out there at once time that was wired into the stock headlight harness and the battery and used specialized relays for the headlights.

I'm assuming that it would allow you to change your headlights from being capsule lights, to just bulb lights? I hate having to replace the entire light, when it would be easier to replace just a bulb. Sorry I'm a newbie.

Yes, but you don't even have to cut and splice wires. You can pull the individual wires out of the plastic connector and rearrange them correctly for the H4. You only have to insert something like a paperclip into the end of the connector to release the lock barb. If you look at the metal parts, you can see a small hole right next to them, stick the paperclip straight into that hole and push in until it sort of clicks (feel the click not a sound). Then you push the wire in a bit then pull it straight out the back. When you put it back together you just bend the barb back out (the paperclip will have flattened it) and slip it back into the connector until it locks. A .050 allen wrench also works to release the barbs.
