Paint Fade
I noticed this very suddenly late last summer. On the top of the rear bumper cover and in one of the headlight openings, my paint has faded to a white-ish haze. I haven't done much with it other than wax it, fearing that I would make it worse. The paint on this car has been cared for fairly well, and otherwise doesn't look too bad for being 11 years old, so I'd like to wait a little longer before I paint it. Can anyone tell me how to bring the gloss back?
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I Have the exact same thing your talking about, but on my hood, roof, and rear spoiler section like you described. Countless hours with a buffer + Rubbing compound, wet sanding, poilishing.. everything got no were worth complimenting about. Just save up for a paint job, ive gaven up.. Ive yet to paint it because im saving up for an SS hood and a z28 high rise.. i find it pointless to paint it then get those parts so. Heres a pic that may help you out, this is my hood with the faded paint. Sorry, but i dont think you can do anything but deal with it

Yeah, that looks a lot like what I have. I haven't given up just yet, but I suspect you're right about having to paint it. At least mine is just a couple of fairly small areas - not that noticeable. Thanks for the reply.
Night Rider Z, That's what I'll probably try next - hope it works.
Thanks.

No, I'm pretty careful about waxing in the shade. I try to wash it when the paint is cool, but that's not always easy. Hate to think it was something I did.
I've got the same problem on my hood, its the clear coat coming off
just fight it every way you can, If I wax my car it goes away, but comes back to haunt me in about 3 weeks, just gives me an excuse to wax it again. I've got a long way to go before I get paint, about two years when I sell my bike....
So I try to fight it as best as I can.

It may sound a bit extreme, but it was a good alternate for new paint.....my clear was on the way out, so I broke out the 2000 grit sandpaper and a bucket of water...and wetsanded for hours. Turns out AMAZING, just takes a lot of patience. Try it on a small, hard to see spot and you'll see what I mean....

A few years ago when I worked at a Chevy dealership, we had cars come in all the time on trade-ins. One such car was like a mid 80's BMW 325 with paint that looked JUST like the red camaro in the pic. All the trade in cars went to the in-house detailer, and then to the trade in lot. Well, he took the buffin wheel to it, along with some wax, and the paint looked like new after a little while. Night and day difference. I'd say give it a shot with a high speed wheel, or take it to a detailer and see what they say about it.

if it is the clear coat coming off, buffing may not be your best option.. my roof and deck lid looked similar.. last year i got sick enough of the lid that i sanded it down and spray bombed it. dont get me wrong - you can tell its a spray bomb if you really look - but it still looks 1000000% better that it did. and for about $100 bucks in paint and clear and prep stuff it was well worth the time it took. Good luck!

i would wetsand it with 1200 then 1500 and then 2000 and then buff it out with polishing compound. i bet that would help out alot. the wetsanding will be VERY time consuming tho.
