Never going to get it the way I want it
I swear. My car will never look the way I want. Got it back from the shop yesterday....well, it only matches as long as there's a shadow over it, as soon as the sun hits it it doesnt match worth a damn.
The orange stripe doesnt match and there's a f*cking CHIP on the other fender (they did not repaint this from the accident but it has been repainted twice) oh, I am NOT a happy camper here.
When i picked it up it was dark as heck and I could see that it wasnt right...now i don't quite know what to do here...

wow, i really feel sorry for you. you've had this on going battle with paint for a while. if you are really unsatisfied and the shop that painted your car is a good one, then take it back and show them what you don't like, and they should fix it.

Hey SilverSC,
Here's what I would recommend. Tell em to either paint it so it's a perfect match, otherwise you want the entire car repainted.
Remember the important thing, you were the one who got hit right? Therefore the insurance belonging to the guy who hit you has to pay the money to get the car back in the shape that it was before.

Yeah, I would take it back until it matches. If it doesn't match and they can't get it to, you should be entitled to a new paint job. Good luck.

Most shops should/will re-do it until you are happy with it. I just got my 2.8 painted. I must have gone there 4 or 5 times and each time found something different for them to fix. They weren't too happy with me, but they did the work. I guess that's the best thing that I can say about Maaco.
Here's a second on the request for pics.
Good luck with it.

Take it back..
There is no sense in getting something you don't like...
You can always just make them re-paint the whole car......but jesus, paint matching can't be THAT hard, I remember a shop where i used to live would do some laser thing to examine the current paint and make one that could match the new paint.......I'm no paint expert, but it might be hard....

How bout this one ...
When Maaco painted my 2.8, they let some paint get in under the T-Tops. Now every time it rains, my passenger seat and rear seats get soaked. A puddle even forms in the foot area of the back seats.
Now are they liable for fixing this? It wasnt like that when they got the car, but it was when I got it back. I know the rubber weather stripping around the T-tops is not cheap by any means. Should I even try to get them to replace it? It has been a couple months since the painting, but my dad, who drives the car, just told me about it tonight.
Let me know what you think.

I would take it back tomorrow. They are hoping you don't return. If you or the insurance is paying then it should be done right. If they won't do it right contact the insurance company. Most shops don't want the bad rep so they will try to get it right.

IMO if it'll never be right, move up to another Third Gen if you can now, Z28 or IROC-Z, something TPI at least. You'll have more fun.

Take it back and make them get it right. They may not like you for it, but that's their problem. Why grumble and curse every time you look at it? You didn't screw it up - they did. Don't just live with it.
don't get to many ideas; sure you shouldn't accept a bad paintjob. but certain paints aren't going to match exactly perfect when sprayed separately. especially two panels and two different times.
sure there is alot they can do to get close, but if it matches close you may be out of luck. alot of things can happen to make it hard to do such.
not to say you shouldn't try to fight it, you should. just don't get upset if there isn't anything they can do. although you have alot more rights until you drive off with the car. once you do that it's up to the shop to help you or not.
good luck with it.

Wait until a nice sunny say, take it up there, get the foreman, and ask him if he sees anything wrong.
Sometimes it's a delicate balance between getting what you want the way you want it and them deciding you're becoming a royal pain in the taillights.
Good luck

for the amount of money a shop is getting paid for paintwork it's not worth having a nit-picky customer that will never be happy.

You're right....but her car was repainted recently. Out of her own pocket by this particular shop. The paint is not old. It is new.

Doh...Silver that really sucks, I really feel for ya, you've been dealing with this for quite a while now.
Yeah I hear silver's hard to match... I'd say a repaint would've been (and maybe still is) in order.

That's true too. When insurance companies are involved, the paint places don't make out like the bandits everyone thinks they are. The only reason I came out with a very satisfactory paint job when I was in a similar situation was because I dropped almost another grand on top of what the insurance company was covering to ensure that I was getting a great paint job and that the shop was getting fair compensation for that labor.
The insurance company was fighting me over replacing an original strut that got bent in the accident, saying that it had so many miles on it it was bound to be replaced soon anyway. My stance was that it was fine before the accident and their driver's accident bent it therefore they should buy the new one.
Talking with the shop foreman I knew he was gonna get screwed as bad as I was so we came do the deal that I'd make up some of what the insurance company was going to screw them out of and I'd get basically a $2500 paint job for around a grand.
And that's what I got.
Like I said, those situations are a delicate balance.
Hmm, maybe I don't want my next thirdgen in silver...

Naaaah, silver looks too damn good.

That sux man. You know what the probably did. They probably just looked in the book for the paint code for your car. Then they just sprayed it on thinking everything will be fine. Well dont forget paint will fade as it gets older so the book is wrong. They should have some way to take a paint sample from the car and match it into a computer that will give them the right paint color, slightly faded and all. I feel your car was painted by someone who either didnt know or didnt care. Either way thats no good for you. How many times was it painted before? Where did you take it? How much? Any warrenty or garentee? Did the shop have alot of cars in it at the time? What kinda cars were in the shop? Did anyone else ask these same questions that I might have overlooked? lol oh well.....My Dad use to manage several shops when I was growing up. So I have seen alot of what REALLY goes on in a body shop. Yeah You people that worked there know what I'm talking about. lol......
