Polishing Results

Here are two pictures of my LT1 intake fuel rails. The one closest was done using 80/120/320 wet/400 wet and then I used sisal wheel with emery compound, spiral wheel with emery compound, spiral wheel with tripoli, then canton flannel wheel with white rouge.

The thing is, I had no drill. So I put the compound on the wheels and used them by hand and still got great results. When the weather is nicer in the spring, I will re-polish both rails (and my rims) with compounds and an air powered drill. I can't wait to see those results

BTW- When I bought the intake, it was red. But since I will be having it powdercoated black with polished fins and fuel rails, I have begun stripping the paint.

Looks great man! I just bought some Tripoli and Rouge. Did you notice a big difference when you used rouge?

What kinda gains are you expecting with that intake?

Are you using emery too or just a two step process? The white rouge did show a good difference.

As for gains, I was told it would make about 5MPH more in the quarter mile which is about 50 HP at the wheels.... plus I'll be putting on Hooker Super Competition headers (Jet Hot coated), a high flow cat, and a cutout.

With your minimal mods, I am not seeing no way to get 50hp at the wheels with just an intake. That would be close to 100 hp at the crank.

Though, if you're saying along with the headers, that will be a little better, but still 50 RWHP, seems very optimistic.

why bother w/ the cat.... you wont be able to pass emissions w/ the LT1 intake anyways right?

Here is some of my work

I've been touching up my intake, turned out pretty good. Painted fuel rails and polished intake.(ya I know not going to see alot of it but what the heck). Ordered Extension, should have it next week, soooo long plastic one..

However, Had a bi**h or a time with the plenum, sanded and sanded and sanded, all grits, dry wet etc. etc.... used proper procedure till 2000 grit, buffed. It seemed the more I sanded once I got it flat, new pinhole marks would show up. Are the plenums this porus of a casting? It turned out well, however, there are a few small pin hole marks in it.

Waiting to paint grooves till I get plenum ext. done, then will do both at the same time.

Mark- the 50 RWHP number was what I was given from John at lt1intake.com. He said he put it on and gained 5MPH in the 1/4 mile. I thought 50 RWHP seemed like a bit of an overestimate, but thats what he said.

And as for the cat, I was told it is still possible to pass emissions without EGR.
