Cowl hood help

How big is too big? The way my engine is right now, the very top of the carbeurator sits nearly a 1/2" above my stock hood. This is without an air cleaner. Plus I would like to run a spacer. So far, only a 2 1/4" and a 4 3/4" hood fit my pricerange. I would like to get the 2 1/4 because it is not completely open on the underside, like the 4 3/4 one is. Also, using pins are much cheaper, should I go that route? Thanks for your help.

wELL I THINK pin's wounld be nice when you want to work on your car because you pull the pin's set the hood aside and you've got all kinds of room to work on your engine, and i would go with 4''or4.5''to make sure you've got the room. mine is not a pin type i don't like the pin's sticking out of my hood, thats just me....
