Detailing Question (UPDATE)

Please don't flame me!

On Monday I am detailing a Yellow Cobra and it has many paint problems that might help some people on here understand how to deal with these problems. I know it is a Cobra but would you be interested in seeing the process?

(UPDATE) I am looking for a 3rd Gen to do the detailing session and will post an update when one is located.

Well I don't like Aztek's mainly because of the looks, but I'm sure they are fairly useful, I hated cleaning those when I worked at a pontiac dealership doing detailing, but they did have some cool features.

And like Kaz said how did you find your way onto the boards?, thats kinda the reason I asked what you drove, because it didn't seem you owned a thirdgen

I'd be interested in seeing the process pics, but if you post them on here its likely to be locked or deleted cause its not a thirdgen. I'd say post em on a webpage and just post the link here.

Post it, Post it now. You have no choice in the matter. You must do it now. What's the worst that could happen, they will lock it. Then, you could just do your link or somethin. OR even better, come and get my car and do it since it is a third gen. LOL!!!

After filling scratches with proper paint and then wetsanding flush.

The truck only required some spot work then a 3 stage buff to the entire truck.

And finally the finished product. Ta Da!!!! Nice beautiful paint again. And of course no more deep doggy scratches.

Lesson to be learned...Don't get a dog and a black truck....It requires lots of maintenance. Better yet don't get a Dog. They are a detailers worst enemy.

Almost as bad as a Peacock and a P*rsche. This guy drove his P*rsche to a Bed-n-Breakfast in a country manor. The farm's Peacock jumped onto the hood, he, of course, slammed on his brakes and the bird slid down the hood. It took me most of the day but I was able to get out the scratches and saved the guy a repaint bill. I chared him $175 and he tipped me $300. (I tipped the Peacock too!! )

The job on the Ram cost my old boss or the shop about $400. It isn't cheap and takes a lot of time. It took me 2 days to finish the truck completely. If I were to do a complete wetsand (ie. to get rid of orange peel) I would charge about $500 to 600 depending on the size of the vehicle.

Cruzin Kaz, my black truck looks like that EVERYWHERE. Probably thousands of scratches in it like the ones on that truck you did.

I just got given a polisher cause somehow its my fault the truck looks like it does so I have to fix it. Got any suggestions how to go about it?? Or if you could imagine that truck you had with those scratches everywhere,.. would you have just gotten it repainted?

Oh, I have 2 dogs and neither has ever jumped on anything but the tailgate and that was at my request.

Well don't take this the wrong way..but this is Detailingdudes thread, so I will let him tell you how to go about these processes and will help guide him if wanted or needed....Otherwise I would be hijacking his thread.

Obviusly I would not of gotten it repainted cause I know how to fix the problem...mind you sometimes you are better off painting the whole thing. All depends how many bad spots there are... These types of jobs are high risk..if you don't know how to buff a car you can cause more damage then good, never mind all the wet sanding. It will take a heavily detailed tech article to give you the complete how to....Maybe I should right up one of these articles...unless your still planning on doing yours Detailing dude????

Kaz, that was a classy move! I am not at all offeneded if you offer advice, this is a public forum. And we could team up to write the articles. I am not so arrogant to think that my way is the only way and that I have the all the answers. I learn new stuff everyday. The car that I am doing has some of the paint problems you are talking about so what I will do is detail the car, post the pix and with a description and then let the string take a life of it's own. Perhaps a separate "Car Care Section" could be created to cover the questions that will arise from it.

Hey if the damage is significant, and it will help others to do the job. I don't think the moderators will mind....
