matt under hood

hey, what is the point of the fiber matt under the hood? mine is kinda falling off and i was gonna just rip ot off and then i thought the question we all ask ourselfs at one point - why would they put it there if u dont need it?

Fiber mat? Do you mean the hood insulation? Kinda feels like a fiberglass insulation that you use on your house? Alot of people choose to keep it on there cause the heat from the engine makes the paint heat up and eventually will ruin it. It will either start chipping, fading or cracking. Mines falling off too...but im going to get a new one cause my paint if fairly new. You can get a brand new one from any of the F-body parts stores....Classic Industries, carmotorsports, year one..ect. The plain ones are fairly cheap.....ive seen them as low as 25 bucks. But if you want to get fancy with them...you can order them with a embriodered logo on them as well....those look really nice if thats the way you want to go. IMO though......hope that helps ya out.

it does help me out...i figured it was to keep the engine heat from ruining the hood paint...thanks for the info

Aside from keeping underhood noise down and looking nasty over time, they are mostly pointless.
