Well my first car was a almost a 79 canary yellow Z-28 but I ended up with an 86 buick, next a 83 F-150, then a 94 tempo (ACK! great on gas though) I had been a big knight rider fan when I was a kid and but was really after a camero because I didn't like the look of the earlier firebirds but loved the look of the 3rd gen Z28s. Also my mom and dad used to always talk about a 69 camero when they where in high school that they had. SO after the tempo I vowed I would get a sports car and wanted something that looked bad *** and was still full power (remember I drove a buick first gotta have the luxery) Anyway so one day me and my cousin decide to check out a used car lot for a car for his GF and sitting behind a slew of 4th gens is this 92 firebird up untill this point I'd never seen one on the street yea plenty of boxy T/As of the 80's but the 91-92 birds are something special not boxy like the 80's cameros and birds but still not as radically rounded as the 4th gens. I took it for a test drive the next day for about 45 mins and was sold it just felt so diffrent from the other cars I had been in, made me feel like I was in control and not just letting the road take me places. Anyway I love tha car and also have bought a 79 formula preject to replace my long lost Z-28 (just love those beaks I guess) I'll probably end up getting a 1st and a 4th gen some day too.

I have grown up around cars, My dad had a few friends with some true muscle; a 67 chevelle with a built 402, a 76 TA, a GNX, and so on. Well my love for the F-body kicked into overdrive when my dad bought a 1981 camaro. This thing was built, had a sweet 350, 350 trans, a 4.10 rear, and would pull some hard holeshots. Well anyway I was 12 then, and by the time I was 14, he sold the car because we had a new house built. Since the day he sold the car, I had to have another F-Body. In March2001, about 10 days after I had turned 16, my dad told me he had a camaro lined up for me, and we would go check it out the next day. He told me it was an 86 IROC, and didnt know if it had a 305 or 350. Well it turned out to be an LG4, but it didnt matter to me. When we looked at the car, I knew it was going to be one hell of a first project. Just about everything on or in the car was stripped, but bought it anyway for $500, because it ran good. Well after about a 65-70% new interior, new paint, and wheels, It finally loooks good. Oh by the way I am 18 now.

Car: Check The Sig
Well, My father loved camaros when he was a kid and always wanted one. After he got a large commision check, he split the money between a trip to some island and a down payment on a new 1987 Z28, loaded. My dad didnt know much about the options and what he could get, he just wanted ttops and power! so he really shopped around and looked at what all the dealerships had on the lot. IROC's were selling like hot cakes, and my dad knew he wasnt gunna get a deal on them. They were selling for over msrp and my dad knew he had no chance of talking the dealer down. My mom and my dad had a talk about what they could pay in down payment and monthly payments. So my mom agreed, but only if it was an auto. So he found the dealership with the most cars on the lot (most likely to get rid of the car) and with what he wanted in the car. Before he was going to negotiate the price, he decided to take me, then, a little 3 year toddler, to the dealer. In the car he told me, "Alex, when I ask you what daddy says, you say 16-8" So I just looked up and shook my head. My dad was talking with the guy and the guy said he couldnt go any lower then 17k. So my father turns to me and says... "Alex, tell the man what im gunna pay"... so i look up from playing with the toys they gave me and say... "16-8"... Well that flipped the guy out and said "Alright g0d dam it, 16,8k"... so my dad was happy, got a very sweet thirdgen, and enjoyed it... untill 95-96 when it was left in the garage for good basicly. My dad didnt need it anymore. It sat for a few years till i turned 16 and got my permit. My dad wanted to sell it and told me if I wanted the money from the sale, that I had to clean it up and make it look nice. So I cleaned it up and got this and that fixed. The car wasnt touched for over 10 years really. My dad let me drive it for the first time and I fell in love with the car again. I remember all the times my dad took me around in the camaro, and now I was taking my dad for a ride. I told my dad I wanted the car, and he said if I fixed her up and got her to run right and treated her good, It would be all mine. So I put new tires on it, cleaned it out, tuned it up, upgraded this and that, washed it and wax it. For my 18th birthday, the car became mine, and as of this past may, I now totaly own the car. So now Im starting to moddify the car with what I wana do in the sig. My dad doesnt approve all the time with what I am doing and thinks that my head should be else where, but cars is the only thing that makes me feel better and makes me happy, as I am sure I am not alone. With college, I dont see the camaro very much, as i would not dare take the Z up into the harsh, crappy weather of mass.... i have a ford for that!! I plan on keeping the Z for as long as I can because I have many plans for it. I hope one day I can give it to my brother who is 7 now, but i think he could pick up a nice used Z06 in about 10 years for not that much!!! I hope to have a very nice and powerful street cruzer and plan on taking the car cross country.... so if anyone has an extra bed or a couch or some nice carpet, help a brotha out!! hehehe. Sorry for the long story... Thats how I came across my third gen.

Simple, I just wanted a Camaro since I was a little kid. It was harder than originally intended because I moved to England, but I eventually managed to get an IROC-Z I love it to bits.

Why a third gen and not another one? Well, I'd really like either a nice early 2nd gen or a first gen. But they are a tad too expensive and not anywhere near as good on fuel as a 3rd gen TPI.

Ive always had a love for cars. Started with matchbox, and plastic models. My older brother was the one who really got me hooked. When he was 16 he bought a 69 mach 1 with a 428 cobrajet. I still remember the day when my father caught us doing donuts in the local little league field. Stupid but so much fun for a 12 year old boy. Him, my other brother and me learned how to turn a wrench on that car.

He bought a 70 GTO after he sold the Mustang. I remember riding to school with him everyday in that car. The torque was awsome.

I was hooked on camaros after my brother bought a 70 rs split bumper. I bought it from him and rebuilt it from the ground up. It didnt have air though and I was ready for something new. So I went looking for a new car with air. Found a 89 rs Black on black and was hooked on thirdgens ever since.

Dont get me wrong, I like firebirds, but I've always been drawn to Thirdgen camaro's ever since they came out in 82 (I was in 1st grade). I always wanted one, didn't matter what year, as long as it was a thirdgen camaro. Until the 91 and 92 Z-28 came out. I like them the best and I knew I would buy one when money was available. I found a fully optioned 1991 hardtop Z-28 with every single option you order with it (minus T-top's and leather), but it had everything else you could get. It was in rough shape, but I got a killer deal on it and the body was straight, so I picked it up in late 1999. I've since then restored and rebuilt the whole car and now it's a weekend show car / racer. It truly is a classy ride!

Want to know why I love my thirdgen so much? I bought my first one with the money i got when i graduated HS. An 83 base model with a 6cyl and 180,000 miles. Talk about gutless. But it was the first car that I had that I could comfortable drive so I loved it. Once that finally gave up I got an 82 T/A with everything except leather. It was rough and didn't run too well but I loved it anyway. I literally cried when I got rear ended and the car was totalled. My dad talked to the insurance ppl (it was in his name), he told them that it was my dream car and that I had been restoring it. They gave me $2700 for a car that I had paid 800 bucks for - so now i could afford a 3rd gen that was in good shape . After 2 months of looking I finally found an 87 formula 305 with a 5spd.

The first day I had the car I was coming home form a buddies house at like 2 am. I am crusin at 65 and a white 4th gen flys past me doin well over 100. I wasn't too sure about what my car would do but I had to take the bait. I looked at my car and said "lets see what you can do". I downshifted into 4th and floored it and almost pooed my pants. My *** that was the fastest I had ever felt a car accelerate - I beat the 4th gen and was forever hooked .

I got my car when I was 17 and now i'm 19. I was looking for my first car in the Auto Trader, and came across two Camaros one was a 1989 RS with a V-8. the other was the car I have now a 1987 Sport Coupe V-8. I chose the 87 because it was cheeper and in better shape. I am the third owner of the car. It was a graduation gift for a guys son in 87. then he went off to the milatary and sold it to the guy I got it from. He sold it because he needed the money to finish a remodel on his kitchen.

Genetics played a role in my story too..

My dad had a really sweet '73 Camaro Z/28 that he and his brother had built up "back in the day". It's body was nothing impressive, it was mostly primer, but the thing just hauled ***. It was originally built as a street driver/autocross racer (which he won the Canadian Slalom Championship with sometime in the late '70s)

It had the L82 350 enigne and an M22 4 speed, 3.73 Posi. That 350 (well, 355...) was totally rodded out.. Torker intake, big cam, Hooker long tubes, true duals, the works.

This was the car that made me become the F-body follower that I am now. Too bad some punk in a Pinto had to be drag racing down the street, lose control, and slam right into the side of that car while it was parked on the street. I always knew my dad wasn't finished with F-body cars just yet... he always told me stories about that car... still does too.

I had originally started looking for an F-body, something like a '79 Z/28 or a T/A, but found nothing that had a body that didn't look like swiss cheese. I found one yellow '80 Firebird that had a 454 chevy and TH400, but dad was right... thats too much grunt for a 16y/o LOL.

Soon after I gave up trying to convince him otherwise about the 454 car, he found my current '83 Z28 HO. I saw it and at first didn't like it... it had been neglected alot and had been stolen a few times. But the car grew on me... especially after I got to "let 'er have it" for the first time...

And now she is sitting in my driveway

(PS: If you read the whole story, you'll know why I NEVER park her on the street.)

I got mine for $700. Thats why I bought it, it was $700, everything at least half-worked, and the engine ran good. The body is a different story, but it is by no means falling apart. Add to the above that I didn't want a truck (common 'round here), nor some other non car thing. I wanted a car, with a trunk, and can haul one passenger Did I mention it was cheap? I'm 16 for the records.

More on this:

Buddy 1: Hey, did you see that fancy red car that guy is selling?
Me: Heck yeah, I'll have to pester my dad and see if we can take a look
Buddy 1: That thing would be better than getting a panel van(inside joke)!
Buddy 2: Did you see that red V8 sitting on Rt X?
Me: Yup, I see it every morning to get here (school)
Buddy 2: You gonna buy it?
Me: Prolly not, I'd be lucky to get my dad's Tempo because he wants a new car and my mom won't let him get one.

A week later
Buddy 3: I see that guy sold that really cool looking red car on Rt. X
Me: Gee I wonder.... It seems to have rolled into my driveway
Buddy 2: No way man, I wanted to buy it
Buddy 1: I guess its panel van time!
Me, to buddy 1: You gotta get your license first
and so on

I have a buddy (buddy 2) that bought an 85 Caprice Estate. Talk about a tank. Its exactly the opposite of what I wanted. He can haul around 10 people, the engine is questionable but works, and its a good couple feet longer than my bird.

At the time it was either an F-body or a Neon. The Neon was only out for about 2-3 years so none were cheap enough. So, I went out looking for a Camaro.

For some reason, I have a bad habit of buying the first car I look at. But it's a gut feeling about it and I'm never disappointed and always get a good deal. Anywho, this lot had about 6 3rd gens along with other classics. As I was looking around the lot, I saw the white 89 RS calling my name, and it was the cleanest on the lot, lol. So after a test drive, 30 minutes, and $5000 later I drove it home. It was my first car that had payments. Had that one for about 4 years until it got totaled. That same year after the accident, for $7000 I got the Neon I always wanted, lol. Second car with payments.

Then this year, about less than 2 months ago, I got my Formula. Needs work but nothing major. A bit of body work still needed and the brake work I had to do and it's a damn good car. Not bad for $300.

I always liked the F-body since I was little and was determined to get one as soon as possible. I never realized how much I missed my Camaro until I drove my Firebird around a bit. It's like finding a long lost friend or ex-girlfriend that you missed so much.

Of all the 20+ car's I have owned only 2 had payments, the rest were under $500 and great for what they were. Dove them till they died or sold them.

well.........my brother got a 83 camaro when i was like 12.....and i loved that thing....i swear i cryed when he sold it a year after he got it....after that i was always "obsessed" (as my friends would say) with camaros.....then in 98 my sister and her husband moved here from tennessee and brought their 85 T/A.....and i fell in love with that, it broke down before they moved back down south and my dad kept it but where i live u cant just keep cars in ur backyard (or front) if they dont run....so we had to get rid of it......i got my first camaro for my 16th b-day present....and it wasnt much....they only payed 400 for it and it needed a little bit of work...before i turned 17 i got into that.....*dont listen to ur parents" phase and they kicked me out and sold my car.......i got to move back in ,5 months later and last april my dad bought me a 88 iroc-z (i have to pay him back )and i couldnt be more happier.....i told them that i would rather walk 30 miles to work then drive anything other then a camaro.....soooooo thats my story.....and i'll be 18 in november

Looked at a couple of 89 Vette's here in New Zealand, but they drove baggy and hard. I heard about my 85 IROC through a friend and drove 200 miles to look at it. It was under a blanket with 59k original miles on it in black.

Drove it and it felt like a new car.
Bought it on the spot.

Thanks. But it don't look that good anymore after some bitch pulled out in front of me. But it is fixed and still on the road with me. Just not painted. Thinking of Victory Red. That pic was back when I only had the car for 6 months. I have had it for 2 years now.

I got my first 86 Z28 because a friend of mine was looking to get another car the price was right. This was a shock because everyone in my family are MOPAR people, and for me to go out and get a Chevy was something I till this day have not lived down. But I loved my First Camaro, So I had it for 2 years, and then got divorced and my wife at the time took it. In the state of California she attached to it and try to take it from me will till the court date she drove it with no oil at all and no water well after 6 weeks lets just say maybe I should have let her have it.... but in court I won. but the mass damage was there... and the motor just died not to long after. Well anyway now I have another Camaro and looking forward to rebuilding and falling in love with this one as well...

I always liked how the Camaro's looked but wasn't too happy on how the TA's looked at first. What made me purchase the one I currently have was the price. Since then the car has just grown on me even when it had the TPI headaches.

I couldn't stand the Knight Rider series and I never thought that Hasselhoff was a macho dude anyway. Should have used someone else for the series.

Anyhoo....My first car was a 69 GTO that I paid $800 for. It had a 350 oldsmobile "rat" engine. That puppy would run. I sold it to my brother when I joined the Navy in '82. He later had a head on collision with a Bronco. He survived, the GTO didn't.

I had a second gen '78 Camaro that I got for $600.00. Did a lot of work on it over the next few years, and sold it in 1991 for $2500.00.

Now for the 3rd gen. My brother bought it in Virgina when he was in the Navy. He was getting out and his wife was pregnant. So.. the car had to go. I borrowed it from him while I was home on leave in '97. I liked the "feel" of the car. Still have it today. '86 T/A.
I drove it around last night before I left San Antonio to come back to San Diego for a few weeks. Ran smooth as hell. Can't wait to retire and get back to Texas.

I was lookin for a 5.0 for my first car. I couldn't find one that was clean and affordable. Then my perents said I couldn't have a 5.0, too fast.(they were going to pay about 1/3 and have me pay em back) Then driving with my mom I saw a 3rd gen parked at my niebors bball court. I said what about a camaro like that. She said that would be a good car, those are slow. I talked to the kid that owned it. His dad is a mechanic and said that a lady brought the car in for matience since it was new and he said when she wanted to sale it he bought it. I said if you ever sale it I get dibbs on it. About 2 months later he had to sale it so I bought it. My perents are right it is slow, (my moms daily driver is a Ford Lightning) but I love it because everything I do to it makes it more and more mine. It will one day be fast.

hi guys
i grew up looking to musclecars and i was always attracted to the camaro. i thought they were all sportive and very aggresive. at the same time i learned about chevys and other gm, so i became a gm fan, specially a camaro and firebird fan.
i bougth my first fbird (67) when i was 21. after that i have owned a 69 camaro, a 70, two 74, and several other gms. today i have parked a 64 impala (own it since 1995) and a 89 iroc.
i think i have grown at the same time the camaro has grown. thats why i decided to get my iroc. camaro will be always a camaro.
to be honest, if i could id have one camaro of each generation. it would be great. from pure raw (or gross?) power to high tech.
bye
(today im 31)

In December, I was goin on a snowboarding trip with a friend of mine, and we talked the night before, and I brought up that I was looking for a Camaro. He said his neighbor had an 89 IROC-Z for sale (which is exactly what I wanted), so I went over and look at it. I spent the next 3 months longing for a drive in that car. It just sat there in the guy's driveway, and at least 3 times a week I'd drive by. It spoke to me. "I need a home." I talked to my dad, and he said there was an 88 SC with a 305 in very good condition for sale, that he urged me to get. I wasn't gonna be happy with nothin but an IROC. I told him about the car down the street, and he said "Get ready, let's go look at it." He fell in love with it as much as I did.

There was no for-sale sign on the car, but we talked to the owner, who was willing to get rid of it. The car had 136k on it, needed paint, light engine and tranny work, and the interior needed some work, but it's still good. We waited another week for the guy to get the car in working condition (new battery, lower radiator hose, right-side tires needed air), took it for a drive and bought it the next day for $1400.

Its kind of a long story, but I was really into Thirdgen Camaros. I wanted an Iroc really bad. Then one day my friends dad told me about a Firebird that had been sitting in someones driveway for a long time. He got the number off the car for me so I called. I looked at it and I just fell in love with it. I had to take it home with me. I came back that weekend and it had been sitting for a while so it had tons of leaves, dirt etc. built up on it. It had 61,000 miles on it and a 70 year old guy owned it. I figured that it wasn't beat on so I can get a lot of use out of it. I brought my mom with me to try and talk the guy down cheaper. It was out for $3500 and he said he would take $3000. But then my mom talked him down to $2300:lala: While I went to the bank to get my money the owners brother-in-law cleaned it up for me and boy I was suprised that it cleaned up really well. Now I don't think I would ever give it up.

well i was 14 and i started playing MCO (Motor City Online) and my favorite cars were the 74 TransAm and the 1st gen Z/28 (each oen had over 1000hp after modding in game haha)

After that i was hooked on muscle cars, err, cars in general (just not cheap japanese ones). but because teh camaro and firebird were my favorite i had 2 have on 4 my first car. im 16 now and have a 92 RS and i love it.

But what i like about the thirdgen is the body shape and the bulldozer/shovel like nose of the camaro, just looks so agressive.

Bought it because it was the most badazz car you could buy(except a Vette), and I wanted the 1st year IROC. Ordered it because I wanted a 5-speed.(Buying this car with an automatic is like buying a Cadillac with a 5-speed.)

My first ride in a muscle car was on the way home from the hospital. Mom and Dad owned a brand new 1967 G.T.O. When I was 3 days old I got my first ride in it.

Later when Smokey and the Bandit came out I fell in love with the F-body. Now I may be a little prejudiced but I always loved the lines of the poncho's more so than the chevy products, but after many years of life getting in the way, I finally picked up my 91 RS.

I know have fallen for the lines of the Camaro. What a sweet car. My buddies are wanting me to get a 4th gen, but it isn't gonna happen.
Scoty

Oh yeah sorry guys I never liked KITT. Just my own personal opinion.

the one and only reason i bought my car is because of Knight Rider. when i watched that show as a kid it was the coolest looking car in the world to me and ive wanted one my whole life since then. that show is my inspiration to continue working on my car and make sure its in 100% running condition. if they ever come out with "real" "AI", damn right im gona put some of that in my car http://24.81.248.232/tgo-meet/DSCF0026.jpg

well the day i got my license i was feeling pretty cool driving my taurus and all of the sudden i heard this thunderous roar and a black flash went by me at about 2x my speed. all i could make out was a giant decal boldy stating "IROC-Z". before i could take a second glance the car was gone but the memory of seeing that car remains with me today. it was then that i had the immense psycological and philosophical epiffany that made me think, "holy sh*t!!!!"

to this day i have never lost that love and awe for thirdgen muscle

I got my 89 RS when I was 15 as a first car. At the time, I was really into 67-69 models, so I didnt know to much about 3rd gens. I told my dad all I wanted was a Camaro with a V8. Well, one day after coming home from church I saw a camaro sitting at a local food place for sell. So when I got home, I asked my dad to come look at it. Well, as it turns out it had a V8 (305) and it was $3000, which was an incredible deal!!! The next day it was sitting in my garage and my dad and I have been doing various mods to it whenever we feel like it or when the car just simply brakes.

3rd gens. have really grown on me know and I plan on finding a 89-90 IROC, and only an IROC:hail:

i bought a camaro because its one of the best cars money can buy. Im only 16 and i saved up all of my pennies from working for an entire year and not spending a cent so i had about 7 grand at the most i could spend on the car (this is all in canadian money so its not worth that much ). No way in hell was i going to be another faggy *** import driver i wanted something with some real grunt to it. That narrows it down right there so you have to decide wether your going to be a ford, mopar, or chevy guy. Not buying a ford being the easiest decision, and then as far as mopar goes the only cars with any grunt to them are old school muscle cars and cost way too much (either that or 80 thousand dollar vipers ) That left me with wanting a chevy. My decision lied between getting a tpi camaro, or getting a 74-76 vette. To get one of those vettes in descent condition i would have had to shell out 10-12 grand which ment waiting longer to buy the car and it ment i wouldnt have a car to drive during the winter. I said screw the vette ill just by a maro and drive her year round. So i spent the next 2 months looking for a maro and finally found a 1990 iroc on autotrader about a half hour from my house so i went to check it out. The guy was asking 8000 for her and as soon as i heard this car start up i new i had to have it. It was mint condition, 86 thousand kilometers, needed only minor minor things like weather stripping around the window had come loose in one spot, not a spec of rust though and when he started her up (this car had true duals and chambered mufflers) my knees went weak. the next day i called him offered him 7200 and i got the paper work done the day after that. The car has given me nothing but problems (admittidely though a few of them were my fault being a stupid 16 y/o) but i wouldnt trade her for the world. Gave up on the idea of driving her during the winter because shes just way too beautiful, and thats about the end to a really long winded story.

Heres the short long story
16:First car 89 plymouth sundance given to me by parents(sold to friend)
16:wanted to learn 5 speed so bought my uncles 1991 ford probe for $650 (he hit a deer with it for the third time, lol)
17: this kid sees the probe in the parking lot of a autoparts store and asks to trade for his 1987 Rx-7 (which died like 4 months later......which is longer than the probe lasted, it cought fire 2 days after i traded it away)
18: bought my dads bronco
19:sold bronce to friend got 1988 cougar
19: donated cougar to charity.....bought camry for $200
20: started looking for a fox body vert 'stang
couldnt find the one i wanted and my friend was like, you should get a f-body.....( i had always wanted my dads 85 IROC Z28 but whenever i asked him how much he wanted for it..he would reply "more than you can afford" so me and my friend started looking for one....he found a beautiful 1984 15th Anniversary T/A by where we worked, so we stopped by and Im thinking this guy wants like 4-5k for it...he asks 2.5k and i offer 2k and the rest is history......well like 2 months of history but still

I AM SO GLAD I DIDNT GET THE STANG!!! I LOVE MY T/A

We had no idea what was in store for us.

We were driving by this Poncho dealership looking for a car for Mom. I saw the Formy, fresh to the lot from the showroom floor since the 1991s were arriving (still on the trailer). We took a test drive, waited until the grins subsided (I drove), pointed to the '91s, asked about the odds of dropping the price (already $3500 below sticker) with the newer models rolling off of the trailer, and traded the Citation without Mom ever getting behind the wheel.

I still cannot say why we made such an impulse buy, but I believe the curves, color and capacity for hauling A had us dropping the keys and money without really researching the model one bit. I only knew that it was touted as one of the fastest US production rides in 1990 in the car rags. It could have said "proudly handcrafted by monkeys" and we would have bought it after that drive.

For Mom the true love of the car followed shortly thereafter, mainly from embarrassing other cars whose drivers thought that Mom was borrowing her son's car. I took it over (at 57K) after my 5.0 'vert was stolen, and fell in love at the first 0-140 run. It still does that, albeit with a few mechanical protests. Okay, many these days

This car has been a g0dsend. The odo hit 126K last Saturday, on the original trans fluid and rear gear oil. I have MAYBE a grand in repair parts not including rubber. Mom still takes it for a drive when the Aurora bores her...she still loves the Formula the most out of all the cars our family has had. From the handling to the styling to the power, it's a great work car. It has a few signs of age, but its oft-postponed rebirth is coming. If this car were totaled tomorrow, I would recreate her from another car. Well, I wouldn't recreate the horrendous GM paint.

Moreso than with the 5.0s I have had/have now, or even my treasured 1965 Skylark, this car is a part of me. My apologies if this became a "Why I'm glad I bought my F-Body" post, but maybe the perspective of taking the leap and being richly rewarded thereafter is of some interest.

Peace,

K

Hmm, the pure love of:

Never having $
Not going anywhere in the snow

j/k!

I guess it was because my first one was $500. I bought it because it looked cool. I didn't even know what it was

That thing did mean burnouts... 87 SC with a 2.8 5 speed! Never got it registered though, blew the motor preparing for a brakestand... (don't ask I was 15!)

Ever since then I have been obsessed with them!

Quick Reply: So like im curious what made you guys decide to buy a 3rd gen.
