92 front GFX repair ?'s
92 front GFX repair ?'s
hey guys
well, i have a 92 camaro, and as many of you know, the front GFX can take a real beating. mine...is beat. its to the point where i cant just spray over the little chips in it, and the spray the guy used before me is starting to crack abit, and i have one crack on the drivers side corner. im pretty good with my hands, i am currently a mechanic, and i know how to sand and stuff like that...my question is...if i were to one day take the fron GFX off, sand it down to bare plastic, prime it, and paint it would it look good?
what kind of paint should i use if it would?
anyone know what the process for this would be?

Well....I have done a couple of 91-92 Z28 ground effects in the past....and they are pretty hard to work with really. I sanded one down before....baby butt smooth....but it looked like the plastic was all cracked up.....but..I felt it...and it was as smooth as can be. When I primered it...it looked great. When I painted it....alot of the little cracks showed up. It was really weird because it felt so smooth......if you decide to refinish it.....I would use maybe a highbuild primer.... anyone else have any tips?

Dont forget to use a flexing additive to the primer and paint for urathane parts. If not you run the risk of the paint spiderwebbing from when the urathane expands and contracts due to heat and cold. The bumpers and front spoiler are urathane and not plastic.

Is the front on the 91-92 gfx a little bit longer than the previous ones 85-90 ??? I swear on ever picture I have seen it looks juat a littl bit lower, I think I need to go ahead get the rest of the new style ( I have and 86 Z and already have the new style on the bumper cover and rear qtr panels) Thanks!
