Tail light Lamps
Well I suffered a loss when my 91 RS got totaled, but as not to let it get me down, I turned my tail lights into a lamp, wierd I know. But I know there are a lot of guys out there with extra parts, and why not make a lamp right? I will post a picture of it soon, and give a parts list of things to do it with incase anyone is interested, and some details on how to build it. If I had a garage to work in it would be a really cool look, but for right now it will hang in my apartment for a nice conversation piece.

i would post some pics but the stupid USB port wont recognize the digicam in it, so looks like i will have to develop the film and scan it, but, the Lord said "Let There Be Pics!" and there shall.....sooner or later, hopefully sooner.....

But here is how I did it:
you need:
*6 7 1/2 watt night light bulbs(make sure they have the full size bottom, like you could screw it into any lamp)
*6 (I beleive they are called) bottom trunk *****(basically you need a light bulb outlet with 2 screws so you can attach wires with a switch, or you cna opt to have a switch placed in between the plug to the light so you can have easy on/off) any who the part number a home depot is R01-4155
*2 16 gauge plug with cord(i used power tool cord with the split ends)
*about 2 to 3 feet extra of same gauge wire(i also used the same wire i used in the plug, but as long as you use 16 gauge it wont matter)
*electrical tape
*2 flat head screw drivers
*1 philips
*torque screw driver
*wire cutters/strippers(not that kinda stripper, thats for after the lights are made
)
Basically you need to separate the plastic colored tailight cover from the black background, otherwise the bulb wont fit in, or you can opt to go with smaller bulbs but then that requires some different wiring and bulb socket and such. It takes about 30 to 45 minutes to do a taillight, but when it is done it is really cool, now i just need to figure out how i want to hang them. i probably will hang them straight down on to pics of my poor 91 RS whose lights with be shining down from that big parking lot in th sky....::sniff sniff::
but if you need more directions just email me at MetalLBKoRnVS@aol.com or pm me or whatever....happy lighting!!

That's awesome!
You should throw in a 3 position switch and a flasher and make the turn signal blink too!
Or maybe you could have the lights come on sequentially, kinda like at a nightclub. THAT would be sweet!
Can't wait for the pics.

Cool. I once thought of making some living room furniture using the seats from my Sport Coupe, but my fiance wasn't up for that idea.
Maybe that is kinda *******.

i was told i couldnt wire them like that because of the difference between AC and DC currents and such. they bulbs would explode, so i have been told, but i will try it

well i made my own tail light lamp today, turned out good, i didnt see where u need 6 bulbs or 6 bulb outlets, but anyway, id sugguest a higher wattage bulb for the reverse light and the brake light, the 7 watts doesnt do all that great..but still looks very good, took me $15 and 20 minutes...well worth the money and time

Make a complete piece like this while you're at it:
Should be plenty of objects out there in the boneyards for a complete tailend.

The pics Ken posted gave me an idea.Find a T-top car in a junkyard, cut the end of the T and you can use b-pillar to the back section as a stereo sofa in your livingroom, hook up the 2 6x9s,add some kind of speaker system in the back and hook it up to your home theater system.
is the rear end of the car anygood?? If so and your going to junk it anyway cut the last foot of the car off and hok the tail lights up and hang the whole back end of the car on your wall. Now that would be a conversation peice. I have seen fron ends off of 57 chevys on walls before.Or you could even do the nose if its still good.

This post gave me a good idea to do something like this. I took the entire rear taillight assembly from my recent 83 TA and hooked up lights for it. I am just about finished the mounting of it, since i'm going to put it on my wall, and possible add a flasher for it as well. I'll have pics tomorrow.

i had an extra camaro seat wasnt' anywhere near my car's interior color (my car is gray and this seat was mustard colored). so instead of chucking it i used the bottom of my computer chair and mated it to the camaro seat to make myself a new computer chair with wheels. It looks awesome and i'll def get pictures of it when i go home from school during thanksgiving.
i also have a coffee table exactly like in the pic that chevyken posted with a tire sitting on top of a table with a piece of glass on the tire. i'll get some pics of that too.

Here's the pics of the taillight assembly I made up. Not a great quality picture I know, but you get the idea. And I know one of the bulb's are out, it blew the filament when I was soldering the socket from the heat. It will be mounting up on my wall, with a switchable flasher in the next few days. The second pic shows how I wired one of the sides up.

Thanks. Took a while to solder up all the points, but I think it came out pretty sweet. It'll go up in the game room when I get my own place!
