Hood Insulation whereabouts

Where can I get a nice hood insulation? Mine looks like crap and out of place now that everything else in there looks pretty good. I really don't like the look of the factory ones. I'd like something that looks a little more rigid.

Do you really need it? I took mine off and it kept the engine bay from getting all dusty.

I've noticed alot of people with custom hoods don't have insulation. Doesn't it affect the paint on the hood adversely? GM must have put it there for a reason. Or is it like the old days, to snuff out an engine fire?

I ripped mine off, takes quite a bit longer to warm up in cold weather, helps to keep it cooler in warm weather.

I think it was more to keep engine noise down than anything else, but I could be wrong.

Too bad you are all the way out in PA or you could have mine for free. I took it off the minute I bought the car and mine is in almost new condition. I think they were used to help warm up the car faster in cold weather and to help lower noise. Both of which I don't care about
