Hood Cowl

I just purchased a fiberglass hood cowl... They told me to drive around with it for a month prior to painting it. My question is...is it safe to go longer than that? I'm looking to put the hood on now and just get it painted in the winter. I was just wondering. And if anyone know what kind of hood shocks i can use on the fiberglass it would be great. The ones i have have too much tension and will snap the hood. Thanks for everything

Haha we just went to the junk yard, lifted the hoods on all the 3rd gens, and took the shocks that couldnt quite hold up the hood, but would still assist in lifting. Works out perfect so far.

When i called they told me that i should drive with it for a month unpainted so that the gel coat will have time to set. I honestly don't know why, but thats what they told me.

I painted mine as soon as it arrived and haven't had any problems. The place I got it from said that was no problem.

See though here inlies my problem. I called 2 different places to get the hood painted. They both told me the samething: They can't match the color perfectly because its a forrest green. They want, on the low end, $700 to paint the hood and then said down the fenders so that it'll fade into the hood, in an attempt to blend the color. I don't have $700 just to paint the hood. Thats the only reason why i ask. This is also my everyday car they want the car for 2weeks to paint the hood. If i can put the hood on and drive it till winter then i'll have another car to drive around and i can have the money by then. I was just wondering cause i want to put the hood on. Thanks for all your help though

It sucks cause i have tried Macco, Sunrise Chevy, and another place and still its really high. When i called They Chevy dealer they told me that the green was a stock color, but could be wrong. If you guys know of anyplaces in the chicago land area that'll help a lot. Thanks
