Need some painting advice

Need some help

I want to get my car painted, and can only afford about $800-$950 to do so....

I went to Maaco and they gave me two options

1. Get a $899 job that's on discount to $399.99

2. $1,100 top of the line Base/Clear Coat

The problem is that i only need this paintjob for about 4 years and I got from Maaco a 4 year warranty on the paint job...

OR should i go to a better shop that usually charges about $2,500 for a paintjob and ask them to reduce the amount of work they do, so i can afford it??

Give me some ideas...

P.S. I CAN'T do my own bodywork or prepping

Or another option

Take it to a nice shop for the sanding a primer

Then take it Maaco and have them just paint the car...

When i was in Maaco I overheard them saying they sanded 15 cars in one day, and th shop isn't that big...

If it makes a difference i just need the outside painted, not the jams, underneath body parts, etc.....It will be staying the same color

Thanks, Any advice would be great

What's wrong with the paint now?

If nothing, wait until you can afford to have it done right. Maaco isn't "doing it right." :lala:

When it comes to paint you really get what you pay for. I don't know how the Macco shops are around you but I know the owner of the one down the street from me. They don't give much attention to the "quicky" cheap jobs but pay close attention to the top ones. So far as sanding and priming ... you can really do that yourself and save a bunch. If the paint on there now isn't all that bad you can just wet sand it with a 600 grit (which is what they do) and then bring it too them. If it needs filling and all (you know those small little dents that appear out of no where) use a 8" sanding block to make sure it comes out straight and flat. You'll need to prime those areas but you don't need to prime the rest unless it's cracking and/or peeling (then your talking a whole new game with a lot of work). Just my opinion and what I've been through in the past. Just skip the top shops unless you are going for a show car job and get the best you can from them.

S.K.
