Painting procedure..........Question/Tips

I went to a paint shop and got this as their painting procedure, let me know if anything is missing or if it's a good procedure....

1. Sand down entire car

2. Apply degreaser

3. Apply sealer

4. Apply 1st paint coat

5. Apply 2nd paint coat of 70% Clear coat and 30% paint

Thanks, any input available would be great, because i know nothing about painting a car and don't want to get taken.....

Thanks again

Where are you going to be doing this at? And there are going to be alot more little things involved then just those steps if you want it to look good. I'd lay down a couple layers of the base and then do the clear seperate, I wouldn't mix the 2 if I'm understanding that right.

well if you are not going to metal...like i did, i don't reccomend that unless the paint you have is VERY crappy and coming off...what i would do it scuff the paint up very well with something like 180 grit on a DA and then etch prime it, use a primer filler, sand sealer, then the base and then the clear, i have never mixed the clear and the base. But that is the general idea of what i would do.....infact i am messing around with my beater truck and i went to Wal-Mart and bought a quart of gloss black rust-o-lium, and all i did was feather edged the messed up paint with 180, then used a gray scotch bright pad, scuffed, masked and thinned the paint with mineral spirits, and then sprayed...lol, does not look half bad for a $15 paint job...lol!!

Do you have the paint already? I just found a place online that sells paint for $35 a gallon. It's one step paint, but he also sells a clear if you want a deep gloss, also sells primer. The web site is paintforcars.com I am checking into it..........

While on this topic, where can you order paint guns of decent quality to paint your own car.

And sealer = primer?
