9 bolt rear cover?

Ok so i now believe fully that my car is from the Twilight Zone. None of the auto parts stores, jegs, summit racing, or even the dealer has what i need. I need a 9 bolt differential cover for a 2.77 gear on my 86 TA. Mine is hte original factory one and it has stress cracks...the oil seeps through them. I have welded over them but that wont hold forever. The dealer said that GM has discontinued that cover. Seems like i cant even get one aftermarket. I have a gm part #.....10181391...that the dealer gave me. Anyone have any clues? I dont want one from a junkyard b/c it's likely to be old just like this and i will eventualyl have the same problem. So anyone know where to find one?? I'm calling SLP tomorrow and a place called Rateca Racing or something like that.

try www.thirdgenparts.com and see if you can get a used one in a good condition. Or check out some local junkyards, or other part places.

Tell me about it, I have been waiting since he first said that he was getting started. I saw a picture of it on the drivetrain & rearend board. Let me see if I can search and find it again.

Unfortunatley, your not going to find anything. Used, a NOS part, or if diffsoulutions ever decides to get on the ball, are your only choices.

88WS6...

The slow seepage isnt that bad right now...but I am getting a new exhaust for it(it needs one) so i wanted to totally get this fixed 100%. I give up now....since i called Year One, Classic Industries, and Hemmings...to add to the list of places i talked to...no one has it...so i give up. I'm going to have the car for another year or so....at which time i should be getting a 2002/2003 Ram Air...and this one will sit and wait to be a project or some sort at a later time. I've had enough with the constant "fixing" of things. Time to play. Thanks for the help though.

Thanks for the advice. I looked on their sites but I didnt call them. I'm trying to look for a new cover...not used so i can avoid any and all problems associated with a used cover. The seepage isnt THAT bad...i just didnt want to get any oil on my new Flowmaster Catback system. Hopefully i wont, since its not really a bad leak now. I heard about their prices though...and if they arent cheaper than $37 for a chrome 10-bolt from A&A auto parts, then i wont bother. I'll call them tomorrow. Thanks for the advice though.

Are there acually "cracks" in your cover? Ive had 3 9 bolts so far, and none of them has had an easy life per say... I did destroy one 9 bolt rear, because a tooth broke off the pinion, and poked a hole in the cover, causing the oil to only leak while I was driving. Once it ran bone dry, I knew about it lol. Sounded like an airplane flying over the car. But still, that was the only way Ive ever damaged a 9 bolt cover.

Yes...there actually is a crack in the cover...its a hairline crack, but what me and my friend did was put it on the lift, clean it, re-seal it, then ran it....after we saw it was still leaking, he used an air tool with a grinder at the end of it to gently clean away the paint by where it was leaking....you could then see the crack easily. We turned the wheels while it was on the lift, and you could see it seeping through this crack. What he did next was mig or tig weld over the crack....making sure there was a nice wide weld to cover the outside of the crack as well. This helped alot. But, i still think its leaking somewhat. No where near as bad as before, but i see some fluid thats shiny by the lower bolts. Oh well. I just cant believe that this 9 bolt is so hard to come by...that no one has a new cover for it. Hopefully though, my car wont sound like there is a 747 flying overhead
