ss hood

Just a couple of questions about the ss hood. Is this hood functional, cause on some sites it list tbi/carb or tpi, and hawks thirdgen parts it says the hood is not functional. I want to order mine this weekend, im wondering whos offering the hood for the best price right now, cause it seems like somebodys always got a good sale going on. How much more hood clearance do you get after installing the hood, cause I could use an extra inch or two for the carb. Also am I going to need the use of hood pins in the front or will I be able to not use them, and not put stress cracks in the hood.

It is "functional" is the fact that it has an opening, it's not closed off....

There are no air boxes on the market, so there really is no way to get a ram air effect going, unless it's a DIY job.....

My car does run about 15 - 20 degrees cooler now with the ss hood.....

Here is a pic of the opening.....

Thanks alot flying low, nice pics, and thanks for the help. Are you using hood pins or anything besides the stock latch down for the hood. Also could you do me a favor and give me exact measurement on the hood clearance, it would help alot, Thanks again.

With a Carb or TBI, it wouldnt be to hard to make an air cleaner which would seal against the hood to make it functional.

I thought about it, but it would defeat the whole purpose of the hood....

The air would flow in through the front opening and right out the back, and not really go into the engine bay....

With my current set-up the are flows in through the opening, hits the back of the firewall, and goes out to the sides, and since i have fender vents it can exit through there, there-by cooling off the engine in the process and letting some cool air get into my open element....

DO NOT ORDER ANYTHING FROM HAWK THIRD GEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I've ordered a spoiler, a hood, and wheels from them, and the only thing that came in good condition was the spoiler. The chrome on my wheels is starting to "flake" off, when I wash them a piece of chrome will peel and you could rip a whole section of chrome off. Then when I got my hood there was a chip in the corner of it where you could see the fiberglass, Hawk told me that its the feight company's fault and you can only return things 15 days after THEY ship it. It took 2 weeks to get to my house, so it'd take another 2 weeks to get back to Hawk meaning my 15 days was already up! So further knowledge. dont order from hawk!

I only know this because i work in accouting with shipping problems all day...

The shipper is responsible for the items getting to your house in good condition, WHEN YOU SIGN for the items, there is a clause in there that states "You recieved the items in GOOD condition", so after you sign that, you acknowledge that you recived it in good condition......therefore throwing out a claim 2 weeks down the road that something was damaged...

If you had checked the packages before he left, and found the problem, just don't sign for it, then they would be obligated to return the item back to Hawk's and then you would have gotten a refund, probally from Hawk's for defective merchandise.......

You may have a claim againist the shipping company, but did you sign off on the items, that you recieved them?

Once the shipper picks up the items, 9 times out of 10, the shipper is taking responsibility for the items, and therefore held accoutable if anything breaks....
