Help me use my polishing compounds
I need some help, i did a search about the compounds(the search led me to buy them)
So now i have the tripoli compound and the white rouge.
My formula wheels are polished already, but i have just been using blue magic on them.
Blue magic works great, but i thought i would give the compounds a try.
So my question is this, how do i apply this stuff. The compound set i bought came with 3 buffing wheels. (i have a drill and stuff)
Do i just spin the drill and press the compound stick to the buffing wheel? Then when i apply it to the rim, any special technique i should use?
Will i be able to see what area i have covered? I wanna start this tonight, any help would be great?

Yes, it is as simple as that. Apply the compound to the spinning wheel. You know you have enough compound on there when the buff changes to the color of the compound. After that, lightly push the spinning buff against the work surface and away you go. There is no need to push hard, let the compound do the work. You should be able to see where you have and haven't been with the compound. Be sure to continuously wipe away any compound with a 100% cotton terry cloth.
If a black rubbery residue begins to appear on your work, this usually signifies too much compound is being used, so back off.
You may have some trouble getting the compound to stick to the buffing wheel. This may be caused by not enough RPM's to 'melt'the compound to the wheel, or maybe because the compound may be dried out (shave off a layer with a razor to get to the good stuff).
Oh and BTW, give them a good washing with dawn dish soap before you start to buff. You will need to get rid of all of that blue magic thats already on there.
Another tip - Use a stiff wheel for the tripoli and a loose wheel for the white rouge. DON"T mix wheels with compounds.
