Thanks for the kind words guys.

I Just sanded them by hand with 100 grit to remove the rough casting. Then sanded with finer and finer grits up to 2000 grit. And Buffed them by hand a few times with Blue magic metal polish. I Wetsanded from 400 or so up to 2000 grit.

I was able to get into the small areas by tearing off a small piece of paper and widdling away at them. Not the best way but it works.

Helps to relieve some of the stress from work.

I ported the insides also and polished after with 180 grit.

Nice! Knowing how rough those runners are and how much of a pain it would be to polish them, my hats off to you! I didnt even try, just did my plenum, nice large flat spots.

I used a small hand sander on the second one this morning. So much easier. Took me about an hour to get most of the rough casting off.

Everything is curved so I will need to get into the corners by hand with 100 grit. Kinda hard to sand a curved surface with a flat sander. So you still have to go back and sorted shape them by hand with the paper. I need to by more tools for this type of work. IM thinking of doing the brackets for the serpentine belts. I hope to have some better tools by then.

Lock...I was going to just leave the runners cast too. But I saw a SuperRam fully polished on a C4 and it looked so sweet.

I will post a pic of the runners and plenum when im done.

How Long Will It Last?
A quick question for you guys who have polished your own parts....how long does that look last once the part is on the car? Also how hard is it to bring back the shine when you clean it on the car??

Paul...I was wondering the same thing when I first polished one of my rims.

Ive had the two rear rims polished for 4-5 months and they look as good as the day I did them. Ive polished them maybe three times to keep the shine. Not much work to maintain them. Its just a matter of applying the polish then buffing it off with a rag. Just like you would polish your paint to keep it nice.

I havent had any problems with the plenum. I just polish it like the rims to keep it nice. Oh..I did remove the hood insulation it was starting to sag. And with the high humidity in Florida there was some condensation between it and the plenum that was creating some oxidation on the lid. Looks better without it IMO.

This isnt my daily driver so maybe someone with more driving time on there parts can add something to this.

that's beautiful work. I did my plenum by hand as well...and you have quite a bit of patience. I thought I was getting carpel tunnel after it was all over with.

About the longevity....my 87 with the polished plenum has been polished since November of 2001. All it takes is a little blue magic metal polish whenever I go to a show to keep it nice and shiny. As long as you're careful when working with tools though....scratches in that polished surface look horrid.

Thanks 3.1Eyecandy....My hands hurt as well. Yeah I dont think I will be using the plenum as a tool/sandwich holder anymore.

Well, I finished the second runner last night! Thats it for the plenum and runners.

Cait wait to see what it looks like on the car. I still have to paint the block. I started out black and IM going to change to a bright red. Something to give it a little pop.
