Polishing Taillight lense
I finally got around to polishing the lenses, I did it by hand, I didn't want to run the rist of burning them, but I will probably do them with a buffer later on. A cuple of questions.
You cant see it in the picture but the backup light has always been darker on the pass side than driver side. I took apart the lense and cleaned the inside with no luck. How would I go about making the driverside darker. Is there a trick to tinting them slightly with paint on the inside.
Also, the dot stamp on the lense, how did you get all the buffing compound off from there.

I will have to move the car out into the sun to see the results better.

I polished mine, and my buddies.
Here's a pic of my polished airbox -

I also found out that Meguiars Gold Class wax works awesome on extremely polished plastic. It leaves no faint scratch marks, and wipes off easily. I love it!!

well to get the stuff out from around the letters use a hard bristle brush, like a toothbrush. Icouldnt tell you exactly what to do about one side being darker than the other but you can use some nightshade and black them both out, that would look sweet on your car.

A little better pic or two.
Had the wrong focus, the blur is the camera not the plastic.

Before the polish, right after I got my spoiler. I still need to paint it.:lala: :lala: :lala:

is that fiberglass spoiler?
To polish them I used some PlexiGlass and Plastic cleaner/polish. Look at www.eastwoodco.com they have a light polishing kit I beleive. It makes a big difference, it looks new or better than NEw. I didn't sand at all, but I didn't have any big scratches, if you do you may need to. Do a search, there has been a few posting about it.
You only need to do the outside, the only reason I took mine apart was to try to clean some black stuff out of my backup light.
Didn't think about the stuff under the hood, I will have to polish the radaitor top thing, I wish I could find aluminum or crome though. I am going to order the glass kit from east wood and do my T-Tops-rear glass and windshield. I don't know why I didn't do this earler.

I polished my new grid style lights as well. I was just wondering
how you guys got them apart to do the inside surface of the
lense. I felt that if I tried to disassemble mine they would break.

taillight lense
I used turtle wax and a high speed buffer with a wool pad on my grid camaro lense. It did not burn the lense. It did shine the hell out of it but the white part is still kind of faded (yellowish) looking. If I could get the white to look real clear again it would be like a new set of light.

you need to use a abrasive to take the oxidized/rough plastic off and make it smooth..
then you can wax it.
Mine have been done for awhile now....I used plastic buffing compound and a 6" wheel on a bench grinder. I got rid of those ugly DOT letters on the lower part of te lense with 400 wet sand paper, then buffed....they look like glass.

Yea, your car is what inspired me to try it. I will probably sand off the DOT letters also, and do a machine buff, the buff by hand make them look good, but I want them to look great.

I also did the 2002 TA headlights on my 95 TA with a air rotary dremel....it worked awesome too, but I had some problems with heat....I think it's cuz that thing spins at 25,000 RPM

I just got my tail light in the mail, I'm going to polish both of them today! I assume that a popular auto store would have plastic polish, or something that would work?

Wohoo!! I don't look (as much) white trash anymore! TWO tail lights!
I did clean and polish them a little bit, but I didn't have time to really get after them, I'll have time later this week probably.
