Gasoline on Paint
I'll begin with I am a stupid moron. I filled my gas tank yesterday and I guess I didn't put the cap on right or the right way or something with led to the smell of gas. Well when I left this morning i saw the smear across the bottom of my rear quarter panel below my gas cap. Oh ****. So it left a big smear that I could buff out with basic water and towels and at the bottom it peeled the paint down to the metal. So what do I do to fix it so that the paint does peel or rust? What can I do to make it look nice again? The paint is only a year old so I can't get it all repainted. Any suggestions to help were I messed up.

It peeled the paint? Wow. In my old 92 RS, I went for emissions testing and here we also have a gas cap test. The lady didn't put it back on right and I smelled gas the whole was home. When I got home I saw what happened, gas was all over my rear quarter panel. I washed it off, nothing happened to the paint though.
Anyway, you can try touch up paint. Check out the tech articles and read the one for fixing chips and scratches. I used that when someone hit my RS in the parking lot and didn't stop to tell me. It went from this:

To this. Everything was fine except the color wasn't a perfect match (the touch up paint I used had a more metallic look to it, but you had to look really close to be able to tell.)
If you have any questions, feel free to PM me and I'll help ya out the best I can.

Thanks for the help. I think my problem came from driving around thirty miles and then letting the car sit overnight. Is that the same type of touchup you used when you had that chip on your front ground effect? I have basiclly the same chip. I was looking though you website and its pretty cool.

wow guys thats strange....i overfilled my tank a few times
& whenever i got to my destination i just took a wet towel & wiped it off...now like 3 months later i havent seen the clear coat/paint peeling-knock on wood!! the paint on there is not factory paint either...its been painted with aftermarket paint once when it was in a chain reaction & then again when it was backed into a few months back

The only thing the gas did was strip off any wax or polish that was in that area. Try buffing the area and see what that does. Chances are where you buff will look better than the rest of the car, so just buff out the whole car and you should be good.
The gas should have evaporated before it even had a chance of doing any harm. Thats why you should always have a good wax job on your car.
