anyone know the laws about front license plates in california? do you have to have it on there or will you get a ticket or something if its off? i was just wondering because i have seen some people without one and i wanted to take mine off.

Ive driven around without one now for two years and haven't had a problem. It IS illegal, so if a cop wanted to, he could pull you over for it. At least here in the SF bay area they leave you alone in a domestic (for the most part). Take it off, I'm sure you'll be fine.

I don't want to jinx myself but I've been running without one for about a year now. In both LA and in San Diego. My friend didn't run one on her Mercedes and she got pulled over once while I was in the car with her. At leasts its a fix it ticket.

It is required by law in California to have a front license plate. I have driven without one for 3 years and was even pulled over for speeding and there was no mention of me not having a front plate. It depends on what area you are in on how strict the enforcement is.

It is state law in TX that you have a front plate on. I have been driving around without one for about 3 years now, and only twice has it been mentioned by cops. One time the police were stopping everybody on the road and I was told to put it on, and the other time I was pulled over for speeding and I was told to slow down and put it back on. Never have I had a ticket or "official" warning about it.

As far as I know it's illegal, but I highly doubt that the cops will hassle you about it.
