Re: Help ID these backing plates
probably the stock year that the rear end was from... i can tell you for sure that they aren't 98-02 F body, 94-96 B body, or 90's/00's S Series trucks because they don't have the internal drum parking brake setup that all of those vehicles had..

Well I'm not sure what year my d44 axle is from, but it is a third gen specific rear end so these plate should be for third gen brakes of some kind

Yup, that's exactly what they are... look like the ones for a 82-88 10-bolt.
Note that one of them is right-side-up and one is upside-down: look at the bolt hole pattern in the center. They are correctly oriented as far as which side is showing in the pic, that is, you're looking at them as they would be sitting in the car as far as the surfaces that are showing, but one of them needs to be rotated 180°. Pretty sure the one on the right is for the right side of the car and is the one that's upside-down. One caliper should be toward the rear, one should be toward the front.

Re: Help ID these backing plates
In those years, the pass side caliper with its flex line is mounted in front of the axle, the drivers’ side with its hardline to the rear.
