Painting Rims

My fornt right rim has been bent since i bought it, so im sick of the bumpy ride, i have the 86-89?style iroc rims, and couldnt find a single front right.. so i bought the older style.. anyways its not gonna look very good with mismatch rims (till i can afford a new set)

Anyways im going to paint them all black and leave the outer lip painted or polished, im not sure yet. What steps should i take to prep the rim before i paint it, and does anyone have any suggestions on what type of paint. I know this has been brought up before, but i want to be right the first time. Any help would be highly appreciated, and cmments are welcome as well towards my decision to paint em. Thanks

if you use aircraft stripper and rinse it off and repeat it it will take all of your old paint off. i used engine paint to do my rims and i have had no problems with them at all.

*if you rinse them with a high power sprayer you will get a better response from the stripper. i bought all the stuff that i needed to do my rims from the local auto zone*

nikki did u use the aluminum engine color for your rims?

cuz thats exactly what i did for mine

i busted out the aircraft stripper to get all the crap off then found the aluminum engine block color and decided to paint them with that

wootah: i used this blue masking tape that's supposed to not leave any residue on the rim after you peel it off....u may wanna try that stuff.....

go here to check out the end results of this process....its not the best but its good enough for me formula rim

thanks for the info i'm wondering if i took the rims to a local car wash, u know the ones with the pressure washers, if they'd be mad if i used the stripper? what do you think. also did u do any prep work after using the stripper or did u just strip and paint?

I'm sure the guys at the car wash would love it if you brought a stripper along as long as there were no young eyes around

Seriously though- the DIY washes around here never have anyone watching. I doubt anyone would notice.

I'm hoping we're taking the WHEELS to the pressure washer, and not the car w/ the wheels on it...? I'd hate to spray that sh*it all over my ride....

Get them powder coated. I powder coat myself and come to think of it, I have two 86-87? Iroc rims that I would let go cheap. Bought a car and parted it out on other I fixed. Let me know if your interested.
