i think black wheels with polished lip look more race oriented. i love the grand sport wheels and will get them with the polished center caps to help break up the black. with a nice brake setup and red calipers, i think it will look amazing

BLAAAAAAAAAAAAH better get ready to shine your tires every morning or else its gonna look like crap ESPECIALLY all black wheels...atleast have a polished/chrome lip for the love of g o d
oh and you might as well pick a bland and boring wheel bc you cant see any intricacy what so ever and any rusty brake combo will pop behind it...so better be prepared to pay for some nice shinny brake setup...
chrome may not be the best finish anymore...especially for our cars but there are TONS of better finishes out there than flat or gloss black

i too think black wheels look more race oriented and 90% of the time you do need a polished center cap or lug nuts to break things up. im looking for a black 18" or 19" 5 spoke with a 2"-4" polished dish, 9.5" and 11" wide
defenitly have to keep your tires up but no big deal there...every day is a little excessive though. and while black wheels hide detail in pics and from afar; from a decently close distance you can see them just fine and just like any wheel you have to pull off the right combo. but black is a very nice choice on some of our cars...very very nice.
and like with ANY wheel if there is a lot of space (ie thin spokes) your brakes show tremendously; so if it matters, a good brake setup (or at least a painted setup) is needed depending on the wheel.

Black wheels look very good on some cars, but not most cars... and then, only from up close--VERY close, IMO. Because once you put some distance between you and the wheel, you lose sight of its detail, and at that point, like Kandied said, which I happen to agree with, the car looks like it's riding on spares.
And what is it about "these cars," "our cars," that makes chrome wheels look "not right" on them? I'm curious because everytime a wheel finish topic comes up, several people say that. But upon what criteria do they base that statement? Is it because of the body style? If so, how and why? It seems to me that the body style would lend itself to choosing the wheel's STYLE, not its finish... that and personal preference.
Did GM choose aluminum because it thought that looked "right?" Most likely, aluminum was chosen because it was the up-and-coming material of the "future." It weighed much less that steel, it was strong, it wouldn't rust or pit(though it would oxidize and corrode--but that was fixable), it required no add-on finish because it could be machined or polished, so no paint or chrome was necessary, and when clear-coated, it was "maintenance-free." But that didn't mean it wouldn't look "right" if it was painted or chromed. And yes, sometimes it was painted. But because no one knew for sure yet how to make paint(or chrome) stick to aluminum, paint was only used on the faces of the surfaces, not on the bead area, if you've noticed.
So then, since body style wouldn't dictate wheel finish, and because the wheel material chosen(aluminum) probably had nothing at all to do with "going with" the body style, it would seem that the ONLY thing that might dictate whether the wheels should be chrome, polished, machined, painted, etc., is the car's paint COLOR and finish, not its body style... oh, and personal preference.
And what colors look best with chrome wheels? All colors, for sure, but bold, solid colors, like red, yellow and black are naturals for chrome wheels... two of which, red and yellow, are two of the few that also look good with black wheels--at least, from up close where you can actually "read" the wheel. But black cars with black wheels? ...not without some contrast, at least. But then again, that's a matter of personal preference, too.
And another thing, lol... if chrome is so "outdated," as some say, why, then, is it more popular now than it's EVER been? And if you think it isn't, then go browse a new car showroom or look at most of the large, expensive cars on the road today(SUVs, luxury cars, sports cars, etc.)--even economy cars. And have you looked in the windows of custom wheel shops? Chrome, chrome, chrome(some even tasteful, lol, but that would be style-related, not finish-related). It's on ALL styles of cars and trucks--even trailers. People LOVE chrome! And people will ALWAYS love chrome. Painted finishes, polished finishes, machined finishes... they'll all come-and-go. But chrome will ALWAYS be around, like it or not(some of you
).
Hmm... what else? *deep breath*

I'm not a huge fan of black on black. I have a black camaro and was thinking grabbing some black rims too. I really love black rims on red paint jobs and other colors, but I'm not feeling them on black cars. The only exception is silver. Chrome rims on silver cars are great looking.

there are several styles out there....but 3 main ones
there is the pro touring kinda look.. which i classify as those cars that are purtty painted and big inch chrome wheels, brakes, nice racing seats etc... but alot of appearance and show oriented. i think Kandied's car does this look well. cars that are like his is what i think would use chrome wheels well. that style. 18inchboyds and camaroguy's cars are other good examples.
then there is the race oriented style. sorta roadrace/autocross street car looks. also can throw in the euro look.. this is where black wheels fit in on dark cars. stealth look. not to flashy but means business. its a bold mean look. very aggressive and thats what i love and will do. they handle well and have good power. a different approach or branch off of the conventional pro touring. you've seen Z06's with black wheels also M3's/M5's, cobras, imports/supras etc etc. its a awesome style i think.
then their is pro street, drag race stuff which is also very cool.

Hehe I'm with n2omike
Sorry, whenever I see a car with black wheels, 90% of the time I think "missing hubcaps". Unless it's some really sweet dished wheel with a polished lip.
