thinking about painting my car
my car is the stock dark red color the quater panels have some rust (not rusted through) the rest of the car is rust free the paint looks awsome besides the paint on the quaters.
I want to repaint the entire car black excluding the engine bay. what kind of work/materials are requird for this? could I do this in my own garage and still have it come out nice?
I know I would probly have to sand the entire car down take off the bumpers? ground effects make sure theres no more rust and possibly replace the quaters? will the rust come back if I sand all of it off and primer it?
I want to do it my self because i'm on a serious budget now I went kookoo on the engine over 5500$ in the engine.. I need the car for college soon.
or could I possibly bring it somewhere and have it painted if I did all the body work? how much would it cost? i'm on about a 1800/2200$ budget here.

i'm sure you can do it with that much money....
i plan on painting mine in my garage :-D
if i was you, i would go to like wal-mart and buy a few cans of their cheapest spray paint, primer, and clear coat....then do like what i do......take your telephone, computer case, discman, mp3 player, whatever you use alot but would like to add a custom touch to.......with electronic stuff like the telephone i would recomend taking it completly apart, removing all the electronics stuff, maybe leave the buttons out if theyre a contrasting color from the paint.......learn the very basics of spraying with that......its inexpensive and stuff so if you screw it up you can get another one or just live with it or redo it.....you'll learn how primer affects the outcome of the paintjob, you'll learn not to rush it and how much you spray on, and then you'll have a little bit of experience under your belt....
Then, get a good air compressor and a nice big tank, a good moisture filter and air regulator or whatever, a good HVLP (high volume low pressure) spray gun, some good paint, primer, clear, everything else), take as much of the car body apart as you can, sand everything down, then use fine sandpaper, then wetsand it and let it dry.....i'd suggest putting some plastic sheets on the walls of the garage, and have a few fans maybe blowing outward....give it a few coats of primer, then a few thin coats of the color stuff, then like maybe wetsand it, another color coat, then clear coat a few times.....i'm no expert but i have painted many things in my life with spray paint and i assume a spray gun is the same in most ways....
