how much paint?
i have a red 90 bird that is going to be painted by my friends father. However, he wants me to pick up all the supplies. My question is how many pints of paint would i need to get?
The car will be getting 4 coats of color then a clear.

for a car, we normally just bought a gallon dupont black, that normally saw us through.
don't forget reducer however, sand paper if he wants u to pick that up also, bondo, etc....painting does take a ton of equipment, beautiful thing about having someone w/ a business that ya own part of .

I just finished total repaint. You really dont need 4 coats of color 3 will be more than enough ustally 2 is enough. However, 4 coats of clear would be advisable, particularly if you are going to wet sand when it is done.
This is based on PPG paint and reduction amounts. Color is reduced 2:1 and Clear is 4:1:1 so a gallon of reducer should do you fine. Now this all is based on using an HVLP Gun. If you use a regular gun you will need more paint due to the fact that less is going on the car and more in the air.
I used 2 quarts of color and 1 gallon of clear. I have clear left over a little over a quart, however, If you buy 3 quarts it will cost about just as much as a gallon.
