I got my car painted today! the only problem is we got a Bunch of runs in the clear. But no problem, we are going to sand them down, along with the whole car and put down some more clear. here is the link to my site. There are also some pics of my car in primer. Some have already seen the primer pics because of my other post.

MY dad painted it for me. He is mad, he tried so hard. He had problems adjusting the gun, he got the adjustment figured out right before we were finished. He put down 3 coats of color, two coats of pearl, and one Really thick, "runny" coat of clear, lol.
The gallon of paint, the pint of premixed pearl, reducer, clear, hardner was 190 somthing. WE also bought alot of sand paper, unknown cost, and some Urethane primer 70$. I probablly have about 300$ or so in all supplies. and lots of time. We have alot of clear left though, so it won't be costing me anything to re shoot the car again. I am hoping to take it to the track in a few weeks.

I am supossed to be getting some drag lite rimes. My dad is giving me the front two off his car wich are either 5'', or 6'' wide cause he is getting some 1'' narrower rims for his car. I am also probablly going to end up buying some different tires(street slicks) if my BF Goodrich Drag Radials don't hook up.

Has your dad painted cars before? Do you have any close up shots?

Looks good

yeah, he used to paint car alot along time ago. But he hasn't painted too many in the last couple of years,( his race car- I am going to take some pics of it, and some of his and mine together,-dodge truck, 82 chevy truck, and a newer modle chevy truck), so he was out practice. He thinks he got the adjustment on the gun right now, so after we sand out the runs we are just going to reshoot it.
I am going to get some more picture after we clear it again. I am hoping if I get closer it will get the color right. The color of my pics are coming out more red than they really are, if you saw the car in person you would say that it is orange.

I like that color on your car alot. I do however think the headlight pockets need blacked out to give it the more agressive look. I am so glad to see another early thirdgen get some attention, everyone switches them over to the new style. I think the old style like that is more of a muscle car look which I like compared to the look of the newer sports car style look. Kep up the good work and be sure to keep us all updated.

Thats cool. I too agree that it would look a bit more agressive to have the headlight pockets black.
Another question, where did you get the paint? I am probably going to shoot my car in the near future and I am looking for good prices on paint and pearl.
Thanks
Brian

I live in Lufkin TEXAS, but I got it at English Colors. They have a website, so I guess they are all over. The paint is a Omni brand. It is a budget priced paint. I may paint the head light pockets black. My dad painted his black on his car, and it looks great.

We were trying to sand the runs down to reclear the car, and we went through to the paint, and in one spot the primer, we decided to repaint the car again. I guess it is good that I had all the left over supplies. We are going to try to repaint it this week.

I think it looks real nice my big question about the pics are is that ur garage? Holy crap what do you people do for a living? That looks like that garage is as big as my house and i got a big house. Me and my dad build amazingly wild rides outof a two car garage and steep driveway with two rented storage garages for hte finished ones and a pissed off mom for having numerous engine and stands in places liek the kitchen, living room and dirty crap all over the sinks. YOu look liek you got the hook ups

My mom is a social worker, and my dad is a fork lift mechanis at Brookshire Bros. its a grocery store chain. I think the garage is actually a little bit bigger than the house, LOL.
I am hoping to get to race this summer. This is my combination.
355 ci.
Trick flow twisted wedge heads
9.7-9.9 Compression
268 extreme cam- 477/480 lift(224/230 @0.050)
1.5 roller tip rockers,
RPM Performer intake
holley 650 double pumper
headman headers full length 1 5/8 , dyno max bullet mufflers, exits under the car, before the rear end
turbo 350 trans, 1900-2200 stall; cheetah manuel valve body
26 in. tall tires Drag Radials
4:11 posi trac 10 bolt
83 Z 28 we have lightened it up a bit, I am hopeing to get it down to 3000 with me in it.
I am also going to spray a 75 shot of nitrous.
I am probablly going to get a 3000 stall. I am going to borrow my dads slicks off his car when we go to the track, incase I decide to change out the tires when I am down there.

If everything works out good, then I should run "HOPEFULLY" about a mid 12 off the motor, and a low 12, high 11 off the spray.

Thats a pretty nice setup you have. How old are you? For some reason I am under the impression that you are 16-18. But with that car I hope not.

I don't know if that is a good thing or a bad thing, I am 20.
I will take it as a good thing, cause I don't ever want to really grow up all the way, I always want to have some kid in me.

I just got the impression that you had to have your dad do everything because you were to young to know how or something. Not in a bad way, just the way your words came across to me.

I don't know how to paint. I wet sanded, I sanded bondo. My dad painted. I learned alot about it though. My dad built my motor, I helped when I could. But he put the pistons in, and stuff. I learned alot. My dad welded the brackets on the 8.5 ten bolt rear, and we put it in my car. He welded the sub-frame connectors that he made on my car. He made the braces for my front and rear bumpers, since we took out the heavy metal bumpers. It was our project. We have been working on it for years, since I was 15 or so. he works on it when I don't have time to, And I work on it when ever I can . I help him work on alot of our vehicles. I know how, and can work on cars, but I don't have much time too lately. I am in college full time, and the nursing program that I am going to is the hardest one in the area.
I am very appreciative of my dad and what he has done for me. He has even been letting me drive his drag car at the track,"84 Z 28" since mine isn't finished yet; by the way I have the fastest time in his car-10.50 1/4, 1.41 60 ft., along with the fact I am the only one to drive it and the car pulled the wheels off the ground, but he hasn't driven it sinced we changed the adjustments on the four link, and I have..All this is why I made sure to say he painted it, and give him credit where I could cause he deserves it.

I just got most of my car repainted. We still have to paint the spoiler, and two spots we missed on the underside of the mirror. . We only got one small run in it, and two bugs .
I am going to get some more pics as soon as the rest car is painted and everything buffed out. I will get some closer shots, and if I can get my motor area cleaned up a little I will get some motor shots. I will also try to get some pics of my rear set up that my dad made. I will hopefully get some track times in a few weeks, as soon as I get some time off work.

Anyways, has anyone ever sanded and buffed their car before? what grit sand paper do I use? Any other tips will be appreciated.
