To get my hood or not To get my hood...

Ok, so I want the SS hood from thunder racing, but I've got a couple hold up's first.

1) will it look good on an RS? I've attached the picture of a car with the camaro with the hood on it. Their's is a z-28 (obviously) and mine's a 92 RS with the same paint scheme (heritage package)

2) My car being the little RS it is only has a TBI. Is there any way to do something like open the Ram air hole, and make it functional with a TBI unit. I was thinking to leave my open element on and open the hole, but then I risk getting water into the engine. So what can I do?

3) Which would you guys do? Leave the car how it is or put the new hood on.

Keep in mind If I do put a new hood on I'll be leaving my old hood in my garage. Let me know what you guys think.

-Justin

Edit: Whoops forgot the pics! lol

unless you have the filter sealed to the ram air, your not gunna get any water into the engine. worst comes to worst, you tape open the hole when it rains... but the hood would look sweet.

So, If I open the whole for the hood and put the grate in and just not feed any tube to the air filter then I souldn't get rain into the engine? Will I gain a little hp due to the cold air going straight into an open element?

One more Q.. Can someone take a picture of the reverse side of the hood if you have it?

rain on the engine is only gunna produce steam... rain in the engine is gunna produce a lot more then steam if enuff gets in there. tape up the opening or make some type of ducting that will void out the rain.

unless its ALOT of rain, i doubt it would be a problem...if your gonna have an air filter i doubt that driving in the rain would damage the engine much....

maybe it wouldnt hurt it at first, but do you really want water in your engine bay sloshing around your sensors, wires, etc?

i think its a sweet hood, but id consider using the money for a TPI upgrade first. just my $.02

I guess I'm the odd one out... I don't like the SS hood on thirdgens... I don't like the ram air hood either.... and I think the big block hood looks hideous (It looks like a rocket launcher mounted to the hood).

The only thirdgen with an SS hood I saw that really looked better than a stock hood was a mint black one.

I would choose a cowl or even a stock hood over those... but 3" cowl is the best IMO.

A Very fair assesment, but I can't stand cowl hoods.. They remind me too much of every other mustang... I like the SS hood, I can't stand that WS6 hood, it CAN look nice, but there would be no way to do it on my car, and it's far too big, it makes the car look funny.

Ehhh, TPI isn't good for performance. Don't swap.

I'm sorta with you. I like the SS hood, but I prefer a cowl better. It just seems to look more at home and all around better on our "flat" hoods. Fourth gen hood have more curvature that I think compliments way better with the SS hood.

I'm happy with my SS hood...wouldn't go with ANY other hood on my 91...I just wish that it was a functional ram air hood....it does help cool the engine down big time though...hope nobody cares if I post this picture...most of you are sick of my car by now anyways...

maybe not for all out performance, but with a few cheap upgrades it can be made to run very well. plus TPI setups only run about 300$ nowadays...and anything is better than the TBI he has now...

HEY! My TBI isn't THAT bad... ok maybe it is... lol

That's also on my list of upgrades a bigger better TBI, I'm thinking somewhere in the holly line.. I can't afford to do TPI because than I'd have to change my comp or chip, and I believe some sensors if I remember correctly. I'm content with TBI and my car was born TBI so I'd rather just make it a good TBI than what it currently is..

Back on topic, i think ANY camaro looks good w/ the SS hood on it, even if the hood is aftermarket (we dont really have a choice now do we). BTW, custom, your car looks absolutly bad @$$ w/ that hood on it.

I personally love the SS hood and i think it would be right at home on your RS, I would make sure to do the black stripes on the hood though.....And save the stock hood as well....

That's the plan, get the stripes painted on the hood and keep my old hood in the basement with the rest of my original parts..
