Do I need spacer for this rim (BMW) ??

Hello, I found a BMW 5/7 series Rim, they are 18's , 8.5 J wide, offset 15mm, even the PCD have 0.65mm different, we still got no problem to load them, when I put 255/45/18 tire in the front, it rubbed, I readed some post and know that the maximum tire in the front is 245mm but I can see the problem is more than 10mm, the offset of this rim may caused some different, so do I need a spacer to correct it both front and rear?, 5mm or 15mm ? so I can know exactly what kind of tire I can use.

Thanks a lot

Joe

I would run a 15mm-25mm spacer to bring the offset back towards zero or slightly negative. The 16X8 GTA front rims run a zero offset, but you have an extra half inch of rim to tuck in under there too, so I'd lean more towards the 25mm spacer. Only way to know for sure is to get under there and measure it. Use a drive on car lift (not a frame lift) for easier access.

BTW, nice choice in rims. I've been looking at the BMW 5/7 fitment Rondell rims quite a bit on Ebay. What brand are those?

I played with a BMW 18" with what looks like the same times (Michelin's, right?) however it didn't rub when the wheels were turned fully in either direction - however the car wasn't driven. I'm not sure what the specs are either, so this really isn't that helpful Sorry. What are you going to do for the front hub since the dust cap sicks out of the center? I've seen a painted (silver) dust cap, that's probably about the best you can do I guess. Are you going to use the BMW center caps?

from what I've seen on the internet...those wheels sell for close to 1200 a wheel. Nice find!

Lol try $400 per rim, anyone who pays 1200 is getting majorly ripped off. I like a lot of BMW rims, but with thier 120mm bolt pattern vs our odd 120.65mm, it makes for a tight fit.

You could always do trial and error, since not many people run Bmw Rims on thirdgens.

lots of cats..... lives in Taiwan..... I smell dinner!!

hehe just kidding. Thoes rims look frickin huge if you ask me. Not my cup of tea really. You would probaby have to measure for back spacing. Thats your best bet. If you need any spacers, they might need to be custom made... that backspacing isnt the usual. might need a few spacers.

thanks everybody, first at all, show you the price of those rim (4 in used) - US235, they are Taiwan made rim, copy version of BMW AC II design, new rim is about US682 or lower. the reason I use BMW rim is there is no any rim in Taiwan able to fit 3gen, maybe the europe people have the same problem too, I have consider to buy rim from US but it will be Fxxking crazy, high price, shipping and tax, so I got no choise if I want different rim, I have saw many 3gen on this web site with 17's but thought they don't look that good because 3gen is big(2 big for Taiwan traffic 2) so I decide to go 18's. (keep it 16's if you want 17's only )

For the front hub, I will try to custom some cap to cover them, the BMW center caps were missing and it will not work because the front hub stick out, or I will paint the dust cap to BLACK!

One thing I have to make sure and asking for help, will the stock screw still work fine if I put spacer like 15mm??? I don't want to put long screw on the 3gen, it will be pain in the ***!!

Mr. tpiroc, can you tell me the front tire size when you put on the BMW rim ? I may use the same size tire without the spacer!! before my rim, I have found the same design rim like yours in used, they are 5/7 series too, so the offset may be the same, if you still have those rim, you can fine the offset number inside the rim, and yes, they are Michelin, made in europe, US117/pair in used!! love them!

Mr. bnoon, thanks alot, but can u teach me step by step to measure it? it will be very appreciate if you go with easy English, I don't many car word in english.

Give me some advise, thanks

Joe

Yes man, definately post pics of the wheels installed and tell us how the fitment went. Some people had major fitment problems like with the wheel studs and hub fittings while others have had very few problems. I still don't know how BMW rims from 5,7 series cars actually fit.
