Polishing RPM/Burning compound
I've been poking around the assorted polishing/buffing threads and instructions and I keep coming across mentions of using the 3/4hp baldor buffer, is this the 1800, 3000 or 3600rpm one?
I’ve got assorted stuff that I can use for buffing, but I tend to like using my big, 3/4hp drill press and mounting 8” wheels on separate arbors. That way I can use the same tool for everything from grinding to polishing and can even add a flex shaft or chuck the same wheels up in a hand drill, die grinder… if I can’t bring whatever I’m working on to the tool. It makes a small amount of cutters, tools and wheels go a long way.
The problem I’m having is that I have a tendency to burn the compound (Tripoli and rouge) which tends to leave it in hard black lumps that often I can’t even buff off, I have to stop, pull out some WD40 spray it down and wipe it off, anyone have any thoughts?
