On the subject of American cars in Japan...contrary to what the movies instill in people, they LOVE American cars in Japan! They are like exotics over there, that's why all the thirdgens are well maintained. They are very expensive.

As a general rule, Japanese people are NOT ricers...they very much value doing performance mods to a car before visual mods, and while we may consider some Japanese styling a little goofy, it's always done professionally-- i.e. no unpainted body kits or duct tape.

The American r i c e r syndrome is just a silly, cheap imitation of the Japanese grand touring cars popularized by the movies...it's not how the Japanese do things in reality.

Yup looks similar to what I did with my 82-83 glass hood on my IROC-Z but looks like they cut out more than I did:

As for the other hood (the inverted cowl) I'm still interested in getting one. I would order one from the states but I have not seen one for sale yet. Instead I have been talking with those guys in Japan and I think we are going to work something out. The one from Japan would probably be best for my Z28 project because it has the smaller vents on the sides of the inverted cowl right above where the turbo's are going to be (good heat extraction). I have a friend that brings in motors from Japan via container (like 20 or 30 at a time) and I've worked a deal with him so shipping will be cheap for me. I'll know for sure around the end of this year after I sell my place.

i'm in Japan right now and i'm going to contact them and see what we can work out. I know you can ship them 10 times cheaper. you don't have to fly them you can ship them by boat and then UPS/FEDEX. Might take longer but your paying an arm and a leg for it. i'll keep you all post on what i find out.

I think the hood would look better if it was smooth all the way across the top like a cowl hood and without the small vents on the side. I may have to do a photoshop

although I agree, a cowl/blister hood like the one you PS'd would be an awesome option, its within the realm of "reason" for third gens. That CF inverted scoop.. thats just radical by comparison. Not only that, I am inclined to believe that you could have the hood you PS'd made pretty easily... I am sure I am wrong.. but it just felt like I could justify my comments by spouting that last part
