What tires for 18x11 rims??

I guess this is probably the most appropiate board for this question. Im getting ready to order the new rims for my IROC in spring and Im doing 18x9.5 up front with 275s and 18x11 or 18x12 rims out back but I can decide which tires to go with. BFG has G-Force KDW's in 335/30ZR but they say I need a 11.5-12.5 wide rim to run them. Id rather run the 11" wide one cause I think the tires will stick out too far on the car with 12" rims. Anyone know of a good tire in like 315 for an 18" rim? BFG does have G-Force Drag Radials in both 315 and 345 for 18" rims but I dont know how well those tires will do for normal street use. I wana take the car in Power Tour and do a good amount of highway driving with it so the tires have to last. Thanks for the help.

BFG KD's come in 295/35/18 and 285/30/18

I'd probably go with the former... you are going to need all the sidewall you can get.

Sounds like your best bet is to find out if any supercars out there (aka Ferrari, Lambo, Porsche) come with those size tires, and see who makes them. I doubt any of the tire manufacturers for the general public performance market will make tires at that size. You need to look at the tire manufacturers for higher end cars, they usually carry the odd sizes. Examples would be Michelin (Pilot Sport Cup's), or Pirelli (P-Zero Corsa's).

I love the idea of putting steam rollers in the rear. Extra wide tires look so exotic. Sounds like if you want to use anything bigger than a 275, you may have to get to work banging away at the rear fender well so the tires won't scrape upon every little bump in the road.

I don't really know what tires are really good in that size.

ya i really want 315's but i guess the 335s might work. Dudes with 17x11's got it easy, there are a ton of 315 tires out there for 17" rims. Im not too worried about the cost, when the time comes I should be able to get them at cost though my secret connection.....muwahahahaha!!!! lol, sorry. Thanks for the info guys.

d00ds there are so many tires for that size its not even funny. That size rim came on the Corvette ZR1s. Which means that quite a few manufactures will make them. You just gotta look hard.

don't care how secret your connection is if you get good tires legally you'll still pay an arm and a leg. my 18's weren't even that large and cost was just under 2,000. won't even get into the dr's.

good luck with it.

Kandied, are you talking about the wheels and tires, or just tires themselves? Those Toyos weren't $500 a piece were they? I know tires for 18s are expensive, but i don't think i saw any that expensive.

ZR1's had 17" rims.

Kandied91Z- Well, i guess its not much of a secret but our new shop sells tires so ill get them at our cost. Once we close on the purchase in april/may ill be able to figure out what I can really get and what will work best for my car.

From Tire Rack:
Pilot Sports in 315/18 are $696 for the 2 rear tires and $604 for 2 fronts in 275/18.
Eagle F1 Fiorano's in 335/18 $1044 for the 2 rears and $640 for fronts in 245/18.

Not quite $2000 but close. Man I wish Nitto made 555R's in 315/18. Ah well, tires will cost me a grand less then the rims at least lol.

If I could fit an 18x11 rim under my car, I would use 335/35/18's on the rear.

one can be fitted with out any problems, that is unless your running an excessive suspension drop then you will definately need to modify both the inner and outer fender well. get a wheel that is custom cut and the least you'll need is to message the inner fender.

17 x11 or 18x11, i want to see this on the car . i cant believe a 11 inch rim will fit and not stick out a mile. i have an eibach sportline kit and the rear didnt drop that much , i would freaking love to 17 or 18 by 11. What kind of work would have to be done to make it fit, like using a hammer , or more serious.

well assuming you pay the 400+ a rim to have a custom 2 piece or more built to the right specs you could fit it very easily if you were to reweld a smooth pannel on the inner fender well and still have the rubber inside the outer fender without mods. if not you will definately need to message the inner fender flat (get rid of the ridges) as well as roll the outer fender as much as possible. the rubber if inflated properly with the right profile would be very close to the edge.

no doubt it would be a tight fit and probably not worth the extra work but it could and would work.

reviving an old thread, but I see that a lot of guys said that stuffing 11" wide rims in the back wouldbe cool.

That is what i am doing. I dought Kandied will ever check this, but you def DO NOT need to pay 400+ a rim.
I got mine ALL 4 FOR 510$ shipped to my front door.

335's out back and 275's up front.

I have postd pics all over TGO, and i have a ton in my site.

nolanr0413, it is possible with modding the inner fender well, i have not done the outer, but i might have to. All you need to is to get custom spacers, WAY cheaper than custom rims.

damn old threads, you should just get an 9.5 or 10 inch rim with a 295 and stick with that , any bigger and they stick out and look like crap .

Holy poop this is an old thread.

Anyway, for wheels I'm going with ROH Modena's. Still haven' decided on 18x11 or 18x12 yet. I may even go with 19's. I have some time to decide stillthouh. I just opened my shop up in January so all my time and money has been going to getting everything up and running.

As far as tires go, I just opened up my wholesale account with TireRack yesterday. Wholesale prices are awesome I found some sweet Michilin Pilot Sports in 345/30YR19for a good deal

You will if you want custom 2 piece wheels and not have to deal with adapters.

the discussion was considering 18" wheels and the rims that accompany them, to get a wheel that large and wide in an 18 or larger size you'll end up with a very cheap wheel if it's under $1600 a set msrp. used or smaller wheels sizes are not in consideration for that factor. neither are personal discounts or "free" items. also take into consideration the price of adapters as well. when buying new i'm assuming that you spent at least over $200 if you went with skulte, maybe slightly less somewhere else. 17" wheels are much cheaper then 18's as that is not an issue. to get the right look and stance you would need to do alot of work on your setup to make them look right. if i were to run your exact setup on my car i would take out both my rear quarter pannels under any moderate acceleration.

i would not recommend 19's, only for the reason that tire size is limited depending on your style, particularly if your looking in the 19x10 or larger which leaves michelin and pirelli as the top choices. meaning you'll end up with some funky combination sizes otherwise that could make fitment more difficult then say 18" setup. however, forgetting about the tire choices 19's do fit nicely overall as a rim size. i wish they were still making the original pilot sports, the new ps2's don't look nearly as nice as the original sports which you can find doing some searching. fitting a 285/35/19 kdw nt was quite difficult at 26.9" tall i will not be using that tire size again. if it wasn't for the look of the ps2 i would definately run those.

i'd have to agree, only in the understanding that with little modification you can run a 295 with little to zero issues. any wider and you'll need some fabrication skills to get this kind of look. the idea of the tire sticking out past factory specs, especially to the point you can sit on the tire itself just isn't a good idea..

while some may want their tires to be as close to the edge as possible there is a boundry that it should stop. this is a 295/35/18 on a 18x10 with factory b.s. it required slight hammering near the bumpstop mounting point and the removal of the factory rear bumpstops.

I thought you guys would want to know. Goodyear makes a tire called the eagle f1 supercar. They've been used on ferrari's, shelby cobra's, corvette's, ect. Hence the name super car. Here is the link http://www.tirerack.com/tires/Sizes....le+F1+Supercar they range in price from $200-$400 a peice.

Potenza RE050A Scuderia in 345/35YR19. What do ya think of those? I'll make them fit. I'm not too worried about hammering or even minitubbing if I have to. The rims I want are 3 piece rims so I can get them in the right backspacing and all. Just wana slap the widest tires I can in the back while making it look good. I'm also going to try to find a way to put 295's in the front. Do you think that can be done?

is this a street car or a auto-x? you will regret it if it's a street car..

295 up front is possible, you'll need to do some fender work if you plan to lower the car. the 345 would work in the rear too if your going to cut and modify anything is possible. a 354/35/19 is a 28.5 in tire though which is huge. i would not recommend it.

I am doing everything short of minitubing. And I am gaining all kinds of clearance. I have now decided to tuck them further than they are on my site. So i am gonna get back in there and slice more metal out of the way, till I max out all of it. I will then weld in new plates and coat all of it. I am 100% confident that i will get them to tuck like 295's.....maybe not these monster 335's, but def 315's or 325's if they even have those. Where there is a will ther is a way there also needs to be a cutter and a welder, hehe.

Kandied...I know the discution was about 18's and 19's I ust wanted to point out that there are deals out there, and I had ZERO special treatment. no free stuff, dicounts or any other kind of rare offer. I got my ZR1 replicas in gunmetal cuz the car is gonna be 100 % street car driven all the time and the last thing i wanna worry about is wrecking my rims on a stupid pot hole. If these go to hell one day, then who cares....I can buy them again and again....with no dent to my walet practically. That is just me, I will let you guys know how it all is when I am acctually using them.
