Painting Wheels?

I just bought a set of "red" 91-92 Z28 wheels however I want to repaint them because they are turning pinkish. The clearcoat is also deteriorating. I was wondering if i could just apply clearcoat over the existing layer or I need to strip it. I dont really want to spend money on getting the professionally done because I am only 16 and need money for insurance. Your opinion is great.

Don't have it professionally done, do it yourself, all it will take is time, and a small amount of funds. To answer your question, you will need to remove the old clear coat with either aircraft stripper , or sanding. I would advise going down to bare aluminum. How is the clear coat on the rest of the wheels? Keep in mind you can polish the wheels out as well. If you repaint, keep in mind that red is hard to match, I would consider black, metallic gray, pewter, or silver. Masking the wheels will be time consuming as well. Good luck!
