Ahh Shane, I’m bored and you make it too easy at times. You know I have to have some fun at your expense now, right?

Is not your implication, from the first quote, that a Trans Am is not a firebird? If not, then why do you feel the need to correct them?

Uh-huh. Why? I know a few chickens that are fast as hell. I know a few vettes that are slow as hell. Care to explain?

Ok, now you need to slowly put the crack pipe down, turn and walk away…no I can’t… how in the world did you come up with those power numbers? And that cat adds what where?!?

No, actually I’d ask you which one and as compared to what? Would you say a 350 pulling a 13.7 in the quarter is slow? (No helping Vader! BTW sale pending!)

With the right combo I’d be pulling 8’s. What’s the point?

Sorry kiddo, the price you pay for inflicting me with the headache.

Kidrcth, now therckid, but the sig is still Kidrcth. d00d.

that gave me a good laugh for the whole 5 minutes it took me to read it(i'm a slow reader). Yeah your right, but why only post stuff i said???????

And yeah therckid did change from kidrcth, but the sig, well that'd be a little bit complicated for my boy fruityone to change now wouldn't it. So i wont bother to ask until i get new wheels and make a big different look for the car.

Reading your posts gave me the headache, so thus I had to mete out the punishment appropriately. You have got to remember that we have to read these things, we don't hear 'em.

whats up with calling firebirds slow and t/a's fast? You do realize they could be equipped with the same engines right? Mine for instance has an LG4, and many early T/A's had LG4s. So what makes a firebird slower? sorry but i'm tired of hearing that! A Firebird can be just as fast.

On topic, my car is usually called a camaro by most people, although several females have called it a vette. Most gearheads think it's a formula at first sight until they see the 82-84 front clip.

if a cute girl says nice corvette/firebird/hot dog mobile/camaro/iroc/z28/RS/ smile, say thanks and then start talking to her...

if you correct them right away and make them out to be a idiot, they probly wont like ya very much.

1) A Formula is a lower model than a trans am, but weighs less, no ground effects, and sometimes the same engine = can be faster than Trans Ams. Like the 5.0 Mustang LX's are faster than the 5.0 Mustang GT's.

2) There are Firebirds and Camaros. All other F-Body platforms are upgrades on these, thus carry their names. (Just like an upgraded electronic from a base model would be the same name with an X or S or such after it)

In fact GTA's are an upgrade from the Trans Am, so the proper name would be Firebird Trans Am GTA

3) Be glad you are not a corvette owner that hears "nice Firebird"

4) My favorite thing to say to Fox Bodies = "Nice Escort!"

ummm i thought GTA stood for Grand Trans Am, so wouldn't there be no need to say Firebird Trans Am GTA, You'd Say Firebird GTA(grand trans am).

You would be incorrect. It stands for Gran Turismo Americano.

This is really going to **** some of you guys off, but I call my GTA a Camaro a lot. Most people know what a Camaro is, but if I say GTA they don't know what the hell I'm talking about. The people that get under my skin are the people that correct people when they call an IROC a Camaro or a T/A a Firebird. I had a Formula that would have run circles around my GTA. My brother's ex-girlfriend had a 91 Formula that would have spanked his Vette (and did a few times). Just so that all you guys know, there was also a Renault GTA (built on the Alliance platform) during the same year span as our GTA's. While talking to a few people the other day about my "GTA" one of them asked me why I was working on a Renault. I just about slit my wrists right there. I have had a couple people think my car was a Vette (from a distance), and it just made me smile because the Vette is the ultimate car as far as I am concerned.

Can honestly say my car was never referred to as a corvette and i have it all over my valve covers....

It was called a thunderbird once....

I usually just shrug it off, but if you come up and try to act like you know alot of cars and about your counsins chevelle that can run 9's or brothers Eclipse that can lift the front wheels off the ground......Now i'm gonna hold you to know my car is a Camaro, if you call it a firebird, I know all the previous comments are lies because you obviously know nothing about cars.....

Most people seem to think any Firebird is simply a Trans Am. "Firebird, Firebird Formula? OOOOOH, a Trans Am." And if they make 'Vette comparisons, it's usually because it has "headlights like a Corvette."

But a compliment is a compliment. I just and say thanks.

But unfortunately, cops don't know the difference either! I was once pulled over and ordered out of my car AT GUN POINT! After he finally checked my license and registration, he's like, "sorry, but a black Trans Am like this one was just reported stolen in the area." Believe me, I was still shaking, but not enough to keep from getting pissed and say "this isn't even a Trans Am, it's a Formula." And he's like, "yeah, it was one of those."

I have a few corvettes.

They're all Hot wheels and Matchbox cars but so what?! They're still "Corvettes"!!!

People ask me what that big pile of metal in the garage (that i am in the process of sanding 4 paint) is because its all torn apart.

Either way its the same car, basically. Differences are cosmetic for the most part.

I've heard "the Camaro has a better suspension, they're two totally different setups."

When I tell people they're the same car except for the body, people look at me like I have two heads.

Trying to explain a common platform is like trying to drill a hole through my own head.

Ya thanks for the news flash. But the post is about knowing the differences when seeing the car. not about the mechanics and stuff like that.

ya but his comment was in response to you saying this

"lets face it, calling a firebird a camaro or vice versa isnt all that bad, either way its a ncie car "

so he was kind of agreeing with what you said. Which makes you both off the topic of getting upset when someone calls your car something its not

LOL, that was too funny. And Formul8, I'm with you on the formula thing and a Trans Am not necessarily being the best bird. I have an 84 Trans Am, but the drivetrain is coming entirely from an 88 Formula and it should be a HUGE upgrade! Just like imports, stickers and labels are just that. The performance of a car is dependant on what's under the hood, not what it says on the hood/bumper/door/whatever.

Yeah guess I shoulda clarified that "same thing" more, eh?

People here stated how their car has been called the other. "My car got called a Firebird once... " At least some people are smart enough to see the similarities even if they don't get the exact model right. So what if someone calls your Camaro's called a Firebird at least they're close and they didn't call it a Mustang or Honda.

Ive never had anyone call any of my camaros a vette. But if they do, Id just point to my 75 stingray in the garage and say "thats a vette!" So i guess Im the only guy here who actually has a corvette

I had the Mexican come up to me at Auto Zone and say hey nice Fierrie I use to have one like it. In the back of my head I'm thinking, "Yeah and if I were on crack I'd probally think I was driving a Fierrie too." A friend of mine once said that he could have sworn that I was pulling up in his driveway in a vet. And just today someone called my firebird a thunderbird. Here is the real kicker. Most people call it a Trans Am, When it's only a half and half but looks more like a firebird. And I've also had my car called a camaro too. That is was I call my "WHAT THE F***." moments.:lala:

Thats got to be the absolute worst thing in the world. Call my car a chevette, a porsche, a miata i dont care. But imply that i drive a ford. I mean do i look like an idiot?

My car has been called a lot of things, seems like the typical name for firebird around here is camaro.

A few months a go I got a ticket that I believe toped all the names that my car has ever been called... I feel your pain 89 rs... I went to school and forgot my college parking sticker and of coarse they fined me for not having it the one and only day my car entered that parking lot without it and what really got me was not that i got a ticket but what they called my car on the ticket. They got every thing right besides were it has a line to fill out for make which they put MUSTANG on there.

My standards have lowered. If someone calls my car a corvette or a camaro I am satisfied that they got at least it was a gm.

The "Ferarri" one jsut reminded me....

Once I was at my friends house and his sister came out and ask if my car was a porsche. I just kinda smiled and said no. My friend started getting annoyed "WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU, IT LOOKS NOTHING LIKE A PORSCHE!"

Thats OK, I went to lunch with one of my female co-workers a few months back and when I unlocked my car she was like "Cool! This car looks sweet!.......what is it?" I about fell over backwards. I told her "It's a Camaro!".....

She just gave me the blank-est "A What?" stare that I have ever seen in my life...

I hate when people say I have an iroc . Its just a camaro to me. Everyone here refers to a thirdgen camaro as a iroc.

Somone once said that i nice Ferrari. And I guess if you look at a 328, or 348 from the side there is a little in common.

Man I went with that and ran. I mean I love my bird... but c'mon, they thought it was a ferrari.

But I get "Nice Corvette all the time from girls. I dont bother correcting them". I only get offended when people try to tell me my car is NOT a trans am solely because I took the decals off.

In the end, I think everything with flip headlights is just automatically considered to be a Corvette by most people.
