i got a corvette too, i think maybe one person mistook my car for a vette once, it was someone who was older and didnt know anything about cars. Maybe its the red, i think if it was another color no one would say anything.

I understand how a firebird could maybe be mistaken for a Corvette to someone who knows nothing about cars....you see the car from the front, you see that the sides in front sorta go up over the wheels a little bit ....it does have some very faint bits of "Corvette" in it.....but thats only for like an elderly person or someone who just moved here from a jungle in Africa or something, LOL
Now how dare they call your firebird a camaro, thats something thats inexcusable.

I usually get the "Is that a Turbo TransAm?" question.

"My car is white, its an 89, its a GTA"

I guess they think so because of the placement of the GTA badges. Oh well, maybe one day I'll be able to reply, "yeah its Turbocharged."

People are usually shocked when I tell them its an 86. Most people think its a new Trans Am.

sometimes i get, "hey nice Z28...." i usually just smilie and nod..

i think for my license plate, if i dont get the word topless (im going to submit that one a second time, perhaps it'll go thru) then i'll get the letters "RS"

You just contradicted yourself.

I hate when people "correct me" when I see a nice T/A and say "Nice Firebird." Once at a cruise-in I saw a GTA and I wanted to promote my website, so I gave him my card and said "hey, you should check out MotorSportConnect.com and help me represent the Firebirds bro!" and he looked at me like I was from Mars and said, "uhh.... it's not a Firebird.... it's a Trans Am." I wanted to kick him.

That's like saying "uhh... it's not a Camaro.... it's a Z28."

"uhhh... it's not a Civic... it's an Si."

Still, the firebird came with a 170hp 305, you have a 190hp 305. I wouldn't brag about it.

210 man, its got a cat back. soon gonna get a high flow cat so it will sound better. This cat adds a 2% adding of backpressure to a completely free flowing exhaust. Now thats a high flow cat.

if i told you, that your car was slow, no matter how fast it is, you would get on the defensive, correct?

nope.

i realize that the L03 is a slow, inefficent low output motor, and when its in a 3400lb car, it is SLOW. i also reconize the fact that time has marched on, and there are now stock 4cyl econoboxes made overseas that are faster.

then again, im not a 16-17 year old who just got his first V8 car and thinks its fast, just because its a V8.

i know my cars limitations, and its not too slow, with the right combo i can make it up to date. But my job isn't a very well paying one and cash flow isn't high. I'm thinking about gettigna Ram Jet 350 before time ends, no toehr engine and replace that tiny cam witha huge one to make well over 400 HP.

Nope. I know how fast my car is, and i don't think it is faster than it is. If you are humble, it won't bother you.

Well, no matter what we get mistaken for, at least we're not mistaken for Ford or Mopar! I can understand where some of you get a little ruffled. I usually get mistaken for a Camaro or T/A myself. The thing is, though, that it doesn't matter to me. People don't have to be car buffs to think my ride is clean, cool, shiny, etc. Usually I'm just flattered that there is something about my Formula that they like.

Unrealistic expectations.

2 things.

A. you can't tune the ram jet computer, so you won't be able to take advantage of the new cam

B. It won't make 60+ horsepower more and retain some streetability even if you could tune the computer.

But we are way off topic, back to 3rd gens getting called vettes

I actually have had quite a few people call my car a vette it always seems to be girls for some reason. There was this one really hot girl at my high school that I'm still sorta friends with that always called it a corvette... I corrected her the first few times but didn't have the heart after that.. maybee she passed the infectious disease on to other poor ditsy blondes?

More illustrious insight from Shane...

Your car is a Firebird. If you go around correcting people by saying "no, it's a Trans Am," you're making yourself out to be the fool. Don't fret over stupid little details. A Trans-Am is a Firebird, and you own a Firebird. I;'m so with Fyrelance on this one... I can't stand it when someone "corrects" someone else with all those examples he listed. So to sum up:

Your IROC is a Camaro.
Your Trans-Am is a Firebird.
Your Civic is a piece of crap.

ummm i know that my trans am is a firebird, i get pissed when people say that that its not, that what i said.

And for the part about them saying nice firebird, that just seems right when its optioned to be a firebird only, my is optioned to be a trans am. So call it that. I take offense to that cause it makes it seem slower then it alreayd is. So get off already.

BAAAH! I'm saying that it's freakin' retarded to get mad about saying a Trans Am is not a Firebird while simultaneously getting mad when someone says it's a Firebird instead of a Trans Am!

:: twitch ::

No hard feelings bro, but damn it's impossible to get a point across to you sometimes, lol

ya...but that just doesnt bother me. Just a few days ago, this chick at my bank asked me if i still have my camaro (referring to my Formula) and I just said "ya". Now if I was to get worked up and lecture her this difference between a camaro, a trans am, a firebird, a formula and even a corvette, I think I would look a bit silly. I realise she isnt an f-body guru or even a car enthusiast....so big deal, no harm was done.

However.....if she said hows your honda....Then I may get a bit annoyed

lets face it, calling a firebird a camaro or vice versa isnt all that bad, either way its a ncie car

I get the ''Nice Trans Am'' alot, even though it says IROC across the door and its not like its just the hood that makes people say it...I had those compliments before i got the hood

I think you have me mistaken. If someone says "nice Camaro" I don't say OOOOOOOH MY GOOOOD YOU ARE A F-ING DUMBASS WTF OMG OMG STUPID, IT'S A FIREBIRD FORMULA!!! F.I.R.E.B.I.R.D.!!!! I shrug it off too. But it still bugs me. I might say "well actually it's a Firebird, yeah I still have it" at the most.
