cowl induction hoods...opinions on what brand, and how do they fit?

i want to put a cowl induction hood on my car next spring, but i have a few questions. what is the better brand, harwood, or ascd? i have heard that the cowl hoods are notorious for not fitting right, is this true? i don't think that i like the idea of spending like 500 buicks on a hood and like a couple hundred to get it painted and having it not fit. if any of you guys have had any experiences with cowl induction hoods, let me know. got pictures? even better. any and all info would be great.

I think ASCD hoods are more ready to bolt on than the Harwood hoods. I had a Harwood and liked it but there are a couple of people that hate theirs.

No fiberglass is going to fit like a steel hood. I have looked at many fiberglass hoods and they all have imperfections in them. The ones that do look really good have many hours of body shop labor in them.

The really bad point of the Harwood is the lip that needs to be cut off of it before it can be put on the car. They send the hood with a ¾” to 1” lip all the way around the hood and it has to be cut off from the front and back of the hood. Then the edges will need to be straightened up and sanded after cutting.

The bad thing I have heard about ASCD hoods is the gel coat. Three different owners have told me that they had problems with the gel coat on their ASCD hoods.

What I did to clean up the underside of the hood.

I have unlimited products 4 3/4" cowl hood on the way. I paid $270 + shipping which is a good deal. Eveyone else wanted at least $400 for that same hood. My hood is a bolt up to the hing type.

Good luck, but check out their web site.

I have a 4" Glasstech on my car and am very happy with the fit and quality. Like Chuck said, they all have imperfections and require some work. Link is in my sig for pics and an address and telephone number if you want to call and get a catalog. They don't have a website yet as far as I know.

I have a 6" Glasstech cowl hood which is being painted right now along with the rest of my car. Like the other guys said, they do take some work to make them look perfect but I think it is worth it in the end. I'll have pics up as soon as it's done.
