Tribal flames?

I'm tossing around ideas for paint on the GTA, and I've been thinking of this for a while. I can see it looking good in my head, but its hard to put it on paper or a picture. After a couple hours in photoshop this is what I've come up with. I am thinking of doing a tribal flame style design down one side of the car. The car has t-tops, so I can't continue the design on the roof. Kinda looks like the car got a tatoo What do you guys think?

It looks to broken up.

If you use the wrong color scheme it might end up looking like a cow or something. I would try and connect the flames more, so while being in the tribal style they still maintain the flow of fire.

I almost dont want it to look like fire, more of just a design. I keep trying to draw the design I'm thinking of, and it keeps turning out looking like flames.

One of the members over at nethirdgen.org (his member name was Kat, IIRC) had done a pretty cool tribal theme on his Camaro. You might want to head over there and ask about it. He may have posted pix here, but I can't remember now, it's been a while.

I guess you could say I have "tribal style" ghost flames on my car, but only cause the flames cut back.

There is a member here with a white Camaro, that has black tribal stripes going up the middle of it... I can't remember his user name but it looked really good.

There are probably alot of people going to disagree with me on this, but I think tribal is finally on it's way out. Don't get me wrong, I do love the way it looks, but really, I have not seen that many new magazine cars or trucks with them on it. We recently did a motorcycle at the shop with them on it and it turned out beautifully. What about something else?

Hey Ward.

I would attempt what that white camaro has.

IMO, your tribals look awesome, but it almost looks like camoflauge. So start it on the hood instead of the bumper. And center it more instead of having cross along the whole hood.

Whatever you decide, do not ditch the idea. I think it will be a very interesting final product

wow, no flaming yet? that's suprising seeing how people on these boards usually are with new ideas.

i think the idea of a tribal pattern is cool, i've never seen a car w/ it or thought about it until i saw the pics in this post. if you go through with it, i'd say to do something like that white car w/ the 2 body-length tribal stripes. i think it looks kind of weird having the design only on one side of the car.

so my vote is either 2 stripes in tribal, or one wider stripe in tribal down the middle of the car

Hmm, ghosted looks good to me too. I dont know why I like the look of off center, but something about the asymmetry just looks cool to me. Kinda like an good side/evil side thing I guess. Later I will try a photoshop of the design over both sides and see how it looks.

why is only one side like that, it seems very messed up because its not symmetrical. Im not saying that everything has to be symmetrical, but when its very, very obvious like that it doesnt look good in my opinion.

I will do a pic later with it over the whole top. Asymmetry is sometimes used in art to get a nice effect. When I took photography class in high school one of the things they taught us was not to put the object of the photo in the center of the picture. It should be off to one side a bit, or off to the top or bottom a bit. I thought it was weird at first, but after trying it when taking pics, especially of people, it actually does help; makes them look less like a mug shot

I disagree. When it's very very obvious it looks like it was done on purpose. When it's subtle it looks like you weren't paying attention and screwed up. The only thing I see is that the tribal 'pattern' doesn't seem to 'flow' right - there's too much difference between what is original (from the white car with the dual stripes) and the add-on stuff.

What I'm trying to say is, the tribal pattern circled in yellow doesn't seem to blend, or incorporate well, with the original, uncircled part.

Yeah I did that part in a hurry. I think it would be tricky to make a good looking pattern on the decklid too, because it's such a small area to work with. I hate making just smaller designs on it, because it would look like a photocopied the hood, and shrank it down to fit. I think it would probably look right with 'pieces' of larger designs showing on the deck.

Because of the angles on a bird hood I don't think I've ever seen any stripes or designs that I thought looked good.

Practicing on a Camaro hood is not going to give you the right perspective. I know it was just for illustration purposes, but even if it looked good on the Camaro those stripes would look like hell on a bird hood.

your right it doesnt. But one piece of advice dont do just one side. Your gonna get all kinds of ppl asking why did you only do it to one side. And in my opinion only one side looks ugly.

Make sure they match well and do it to both sides.
