Absolutely beautiful ride. It's nice to see somebody who understands what it takes to make mirror-smooth paint like that. It's not the brand, it's the labor.

WOW. Car looks great man. Just curious if the Eibach's are installed in these pics? Seems a like it has a bigger gap in the front. Probably cause you have a V6 right. Guess I just answered my own question.

 

91formulaSS: Eibachs ARE installed...and you DID answer your own question...lol...V6 weight plus fiberglass hood...lightweight front end...

Impressive work man! I bought a GTI gun as well and it paid for itself after only a few jobs. It is such a mizer on paint I couldn't believe it. I used to use a Binks conventional non HVLP and the paint consumption was almost double It adds up in an awful hurry when using two or three stage paint. I agree completely the hard part is all in the prep and you have done one awesome job and now have one hell of a straight car. Wicked!

87roc_t56: Unfortunately, I don't make money off my Devilbiss, just bought it for myself...BUT, the money I saved PLUS the quality/job I get out of it is well worth the money than taking it somewhere to get painted. I also have a Dewalt DW849 buffer/polisher...that thing rules as well!

do you have a close up pic of the valve stems on the rims. I looked on one of the close up pics but i didnt see it. What did u use for valve stems and lug nuts. Anything special ?

 

The stems are on the rear of the rim. They don't disturb the dish on the front, so it keeps a smooth look. It came w/ a chrome (type) of stem and cap. For lugs, I used Gorilla nuts w/ a 10 hex key for each one.

 

do you have a pic of how they look for the rear. also do you know if smoothies with the stepped lip with have the valve stem like yours. I was thinking about asking if i could order them like that , then i said it isnt worth it , and i thought they might hit the breaks , but i guess it works.

That has got to be one of the straightest bodies i have ever seen and black shows it. As much as i love dark tint i'd go so far to say dont tint it looks to good the way it is.


Cemetaries always make for the best pics to i learned that in high skool photo class. People jsut think you're sick takign pics of your mom pretendign to cry infront of some odd ball grave

forgot to ask but what type of tail lights are those? i dont like my stock ones on my 87 and those pics at night gave me an idea for some black-outs. what i mean is to cut into the black-outs to say "fire" on the left and "bird" on the right so when i step on the brakes it would shine rite through.

like the idea of the graveyard pics i was going to do the same thing but the cemetary ill be using is a really really old graveyard with a scary looking dead tree in the middle then i was going to use a fog mechine around the tires to make it look like its rising from the ground to go along with the "DeathBird" theme

 

nolanr0413: I'll take some pics tonight if I get a chance to show you how the valve stem is mounted. It clears the brakes just FINE...Not sure about the ones w/ your lip, but, I'd assume it'd have the stems like mine.

87DeathBird: Tail Lights are polished/buffed GTA's from an 86. As far as your idea goes, I'm not sure if that would necessarily be "legal"...Not sure how it would look as well. Might look, "corny"...not to burst your bubble or anything...but keep it stock, gives it a nice touch...

look nice, think u should tint the hatch though and loose the mud flaps. other then that its perfect! brakes look amazing, is there a big diffrence?

 

chevyrumble83: Substantially more grip and stopping power. Almost stops on a dime now So far, no need for the Proportioning Valve I bought...stock '90 Disc/Drum valve is working fine...Works better than a new car (with everything added of course)

 

could yo please detail out how yu did all the wetsanding, buffing, compounding ect... to get such a nice paint job. I'm about to do my engine bay and them maybe some body panels and would be quite happy to be able to do as good a job as you did.

Interior is already done...new carpet/abs headliner/overhead console/2001 T/A seats (power/lumbar), 2001 T/A console, custom floor mats...not much more to it....

Spdfrk1990: lol, that was a pic from when the rims were all dirty and full of brake dust. Don't worry, they are polished and buffed and look like GLASS...no swirl marks!

How long did they take Sweet45 to polish em? all your wheels

 

Took me close to an hour (give or take) per wheel....And the purpose of the pic was to show the location of the valve stem on the rim, not to see the finish of the rim!

I just put in my new subs, and decided to take some pics...

 

Holy smokes that is an awesome paint job...The slickness of the paint is fabulous & the bodylines so straight. Joe and I have started to do our own painting. He is supposed to turn over the real gun to me so I can learn soon... Then I just have to learn to cut and buff.

How slick are you able to get it out of the gun...and how much is buffing...how many clear coats?

We have been using a slower drying clear to help it flow out. This seems to help illiminate alot of the typical orange peel...
