Window Tinting
I would like to know an estimate on around how much it cost to get the windows tinted all the way around on a 92 camaro rs
it cost me 150 or 160 for the rear window a few weeks ago . Im in ny so tinting isnt legal to do on the sides , i think that makes it cost more since more people dont do it. They did my back window in one big piece and the guy said it was the hardest windows he had done. It came out perfect . And im having the sided done at a cheaper place and they charge 70 to do the sides . o yeah the first place that tried to do the rear window in 1 piece they woulda charged 80 to do the rear , So it really matters where you go to get it done.

I was quoted $190 to do the windows and hatch here in So Cal. He uses computers to cut the tint. I guess it's not cheap, but the tinter guarantees for life that the tint will NOT turn purple. I HATE purple tints!

Yes, make sure you get a lifetime warranty on tint and Labor. I did. it can be cheaper without. But I don't think it would be worth it.

ask what brand tint is used
I wouldnt pay over $150. Also be sure to use a shop that uses Solar Guard tint. I used to work at a tint shop. This stuff is very thick and has a lifetime warranty against peeling, bubbling, and it won't turn purple.

As long as it is legal in the state your are licensed in, and you are only in the new state temporarily, it is doubtful you will get a ticket. It would be no different than driving through a state where tint was illegal.
I've gotten pulled over 4 or 5 times for tint and gotten out of it every time.

when looking for a tint shop talk to them and make sure that the tint is a Metalized Film. It requires a metalized film to be able to heat shrik the tint, heat shrinking allows them to use one big piece of tint to do the window pluse it will lay better and less chance of bubbles. Also I would recommend cleanning you Windows with glass cleaner and steel wool (except rear if you have defrosters) to make sure that there isn't any stickie stuff on the inside of the windows.
Plus don't forget if you have a lot of nicks and scratches on the windows the tint will make them stand out more, and last of all, DO NOT ROLL DOWN WINDOWS FOR 3DAYS= Pull Power Window Fuse.
Just my .02
Oh BTW the ziebart I worked at was in Indiana and the tint laws are 35% Front 20% Rear, Some shops will do darker Just Cash Only and No Recipt. Don't Give the Police a reason to check the tint and 15% all the way around would be fine.

did my GTA last week
I worked at a tint shop and did windows 8hrs a day for 5 months and let me tell you, my GTA hatch was damn tough. I got a 4 inch crease on one side of it.
I did the window with two pieces. There is no way they can one piece that window because you would need 40" wide film. A good shop will two piece it and make the cut on one of the defrosters so you cannot tell it is two pieces.
The side edges will not look that great though even with a skilled tinter because there is a metal wire that runs up and down the sides of the hatch to power the defroster lines. Take a look.
Anyways, do NOT attempt this yourself unless you have a good year experience doing tint, This is probably the 2nd hardest window to tint, the hardest is one of those Gremlin cars like on WAyne's World movie.
$85 to do the hatch is a very good price. The tint would cost you $40 if you did it yourself with good film.

I was told by the eclipse tint company that quote for $85.00 it would be a one piece. It doesnt matter what % I want its $85.00. I do have rear defrost. Anything else I should know before I have this done?

Ask them what brand of tint they use.
We used Solarguard and gave lifetime warranty against peeling and bubbling. Make sure they do the same.
If they can one piece it they must use a computer to cut the tint. Ask them if they do that also. It is impossible (as far as I know) to one piece it by hand.
AFter it is done, look closely for tiny white bubbles when looking at the tint from the outside. Each speckle you see is dirt and they will not go away. If there is too much dirt make them redo it.

wow, i guess being sponsered by an interior shop helps...im getting my windows done next week for 120$ thats in southern cali. im gettin 5% on the back and 20% on the sides. its illegal to have any form of tint on your side windows in california, but shops will do it because you rarley will get a ticket for it. this is lifetime warrenty againt all the normal stuff..bubbling, purpling, all that stuff. and i dont have rear defrost, so theyre doing it in one piece. he said if the rear window wasnt huge it would be 100$. i love being sponsered. the reason im getting tint is so i can take off my louvers and put the sponser stickers on. check out my sponsers site if u want www.coronasunroof.com he does great work, and gets me hook ups wherever i want.
