Shifter ****

I want to replace my round shifter **** on my 84 Z28 because the old one is cracked.

Here's my Q...
How do you get the stupid thing off!!!
I can't turn it or anything. Are these Pressed on? If so, what tool do you need to remove it?
Thanx

Are you talking about an automatic shifter or Manual? I know the automatic has that staple in the front. (My TA has the auto)
I don't see anything like that on my Manual shifter for the Z28

I dont know id the GM ***** do this, but under most manula shifter ***** there is a chrome piece of metal that you back up onto the shifter **** to keep it in place. Try turning the metal piece under the **** if there is one. That should let you remove the ****.

dude, I had the same exact problem, and it was a B*TCH to get off! =/ Its supposed to just unscrew, but its really hard sometimes, so this is what I did. First I had to cut off the rubber covering of the **** which took some blood and time away from me. After that, I had to take a monkey wrench and twist the f*cker for two days on and off... it finally popped off (after I had broke all the plastic tabs on the ****) Watch out though, my new European shifter **** doesnt fit on good, so it looks like crap right now.. I wound up stripping the ****. Be ready to cut it down and have a cast and die set to re-threat it. I have to shell out another $50 cause I wasnt warned.. hehe =P
